I started out with a custom built set of nerfs built from .120 wall 2" round tubing. The guy that built them said he fabricated nerfs all the time and he said I wouldn't have any problems with them. THEY BENT THE FIRST TIME I USED THEM!! What a flippin' Rip Off!!! He even charged me 450 for the pieces of JUNK!!
After Iron Man Truck Sports fabricated my bumper for me, I felt confident with his abilities and after seeing how he built nerfs, I knew for sure that these were the ones I wanted. Overall, it cost me $350, and they're built out of .250 wall 2" square tubing (figure 4), super strong and great looking to boot whether finished or not (figure 5)!!

Everything!! These things are burly without being beefy. No fat here!! As far as toughness in concerned, the 1/4" steel should hold up to nearly everything. While I haven't tried it myself (yet...), I've here his customers tell me that they've used them as anchor points for stuck rigs to winch off of.
ONE IMPORTANT NOTE... these come with a LIFE TIME WARRANTEE!! If the bars break, he'll fix them for free!
