My objective was to protect my Rocker Panels.  After seeing a number of solutions and how they work, I now know what I want...

UPDATE (05/00):

Custom Tool Chest/Storage Compartment
The objective was to create a neater storage solution for all my tools and miscellaneous "stuff" that I always had in the Monty.  Things like my tool kit, emergency roadside kit, off road recovery gear, etc.

UPDATE (03/01):
I mulled over what I wanted for quite a while, but having few tools never really took it upon myself to actually try to build something.  That all changed the day I saw an article (03/01)on one on Off-Road.com's web site.

Seeing how easy it actually was gave me the nudge I needed to turn an idea into reality.  See how I did it by going to my Modifications section.

ARB Rear Locker
Ever since I first got strapped up an obstacle that others with rear Lockers were able to get passed, I've wanted a rear Locker for my Monty.

The only available choice is made by ARB.  Now I've heard a ton of horror storries on them leaking air, failing at the worst possible time, etc. so needless to say I was a little nervous about getting one.

After doing a bit of research, I found that the #1 reason for a bad ARB locker is a faulty installation.  I worked with ARB and a number of local folks to find a good local installer.

In speaking with Steve at South Bay Driveline, he recommended me to Superior Four Wheel Drive in south San Jose.  Superior Four Wheel Drive is owned by Troy Hoffer and he runs a relatively successful 4x4 Fabrication, Maintenance, and installation shop out of his garage.

One of the # criteria according to the folks at ARB is that I work with someone who knows Toyota diffs since they're very similar to a Mitsu diff.

I called & met with Troy and found that the way he likes to do things is to schedule installs once all the parts are in.  This way he doesn't have a ton of cars sitting in his driveway.  Fine with me since I want my Monty back fairly quickly.

Troy estimates a 4-6 hour job to get everything installed, including the ARB compressor.

3/22/01 Stay Tuned for updates as I received the Compressor last Monday and just received the Locker today.  I'll be getting seals and races at the Mitsu dealers next week and expect to leave my Monty with him next monday.
