Jeet Kune Do

What is jeet kune do?
Jeet Kune Do is not so much of a style as it is a philosophy. An open approach to martial arts in general. The name "jeet kune do", it's self means "intercepting Fist". "Tao" means "the way."
What bruce did was, take useful techniques and philosophy's from several styles and discarded what he felt was useless. He then combined his knowledge of these things and formed his own open style. A formless style. Containing techniques from several styles yet it had no form it's self. No fixed positions, no fancy mess. Just a formless practical style. With that said, any "jeet kune do" teachers you may be learning the philosophical approach to the martial arts from, there for will be "that" teachers expression. You will not be learning jeet kune do exactly the way bruce used it. But that is what makes us all unique. If every artist painted the same picture, the world of art would be dull, confined, unexplored and more so, un experienced on the vast level it could be. Bruce's taoist approach to the martial arts is something to be lived through out the many levels and layers of our lives. To express one's self honestly, to not lie to one's self, to remove all walls restricting personal growth in it's many avenues. This is the true expression of all artist, of all beings in general. To openly remove all restricting layers and express openly, to constantly push the envelope of our own potentials, to continuously spiral out!
The basic idea I guess you could say was this, A judo student has a greater chance of defeating a tae kwon do student once on the ground. And a Tae Kwon Do student, like wise, potentially could defeat a judo student as long as he stayed toe to toe. But if you combine the two, well now you have a fighter skilled both greatly on the ground and on his feet. Hense, take what is usefull and discard what is useless. Be an artist of harmony, balance, and grace.
