About OCHEA
OCHEA's purpose is to provide support and encouragement for home schooling families in Okinawa, Japan. Our encouragement, help and services are offered to everyone; however, our organizational bylaws and statement of faith were written and are governed according to scriptural principals found in the Bible.OCHEA maintains an active calendar of events throughout the year which typically includes field trips, park days, "Mom's Night Out", a monthly book club, and cooperative classes when available. This year's events featured whale watching, International Day (a cross-cultural outreach), an acting workshop, a visit to the fire station, and a curriculum fair. Generally events are either OCHEA-only, or else are first offered to OCHEA members before opened to the general community.
There are also several opportunities throughout the year to fellowship together at member gatherings such as picnics, pool parties, holiday parties or the end of the year promotion/graduation ceremony. Perhaps the greatest benefit of OCHEA is finding a community of like-minded families with which to partner in our homeschooling journeys.
Our organization primarily communicates via email (using a Yahoo! group). Email discussions typically cover such topics as information about upcoming activities, photos from recent events, discussion of homeschooling concerns, and suggestions and opportunities relating to Okinawa activities.
As you consider membership in OCHEA, please review our statement of faith and by-laws. If you have any questions, please contact us. Thank you for your interest, and may God bless your home school!
