| The Birth Story Of Gabrielle part 2 |

| My poor husband became the brunt of jokes on the maternity floor because of the circumstances in which we had the baby and his reactions. (thankfully he has a very good sense of humor) Even though his leaving his floor was against hospital policy (he wasn't even supposed to be walking) The nurses went out of their way to make him comfortable in my room with me. Well they finnally decided to hook me up to a drip and induce my contractions sicne i was making no progress at all and i had an almost flat belly from all the fluid having leaked out. Time was running out for a regular vaginal birth. After only an hour on the drip i started to get mild contractions, an hour after that i was up and pacing with very strong painfull contractions. The nurses made me sit in a warm jaccuzzi ( was very neat, was like a chair you stepped into and it filled with water then reclined you) after only a few minutes in this wonderful tub i was nearly screaming from pain. They moved me back to my bed and did another exam and discovered why i was having such a hard time , my cervix had tilted to the back so there was no possible way for my daughter to come through, my doc had to reach up and pull the cervix into proper position for me to give birth (it hurt like hell to, that pain i will never forget) I soon asked for an epidural because i just couldn't stand anymore pain even though my contractions had only been going for 2 hours. They gave me a weak enough epidural i could still feel the pain but it had taken the edge off of it, so i was merely moaning and making gutteral sounds instead of screaming like a banshee. They were nice enough to give me some gas as well which even though it didn't take the pain away it gave me somehting to concentrate on during contractions (i swear i could have enhaled jello from the other side of the room with how hard i was drawing on the gas from the mask) Well I'm not real sure why, mabey i was having to much fun (did you know your voice gets really really deep when you inhale alot of that gas?) but they took my gas away, by then i was almost as stoned as my husband with his morphine drip and ready to get down to work.. It took 2 pushes and my daughter was born. I got concerned when they whisked her away and i didn't hear crying, next thing i knew a troop of dr's came flying into the room and started working away on my daughter with some machine. Then i heard the highest pitch screech and the wonderful sound of a newborn crying. My daughter was fine they told me but they needed to run some tests on her. They let me hold her for an hour and then off they went with her. I got moved to a recovery room and they came in and told me what had happened when my daughter was born, the umbilical cord had been wrapped very tightly around her neck and she had gone blue only a few seconds after being born. They had fixed that problema nd she was breathing fine, but she was very jaundeced and her blood suger count was pretty bad so for the next 4 days she stayed in the nursery under a lamp unless it was feeding time. It looked like i was going home without my baby but the day before i was released her blood work straightened out and she was able to leave with me with cautions to watch her jaundice. Today i have a very active healthy loud bully for a little girl and just like her daddy she already loves car's. | ||||||||||||
