Gabrielle was my 4th pregnancy and a real surprise. I had just given away all my baby items from when i had Chelsea and I noticed my period was over 2 weeks late. (this happens alot to me so i didn't expect anything) I figured I'd take a pregnancy test to be sure. I took a test and it turned out positive, so i took 3 more before i finnally accepted that i was pregnant and phoned my doc. The reason I say Gabrielle was a real surprise is my husband had a form of hernia. When he was a baby they operated and ummm untied his one tesitcle (this type of hernia ties off the testicles and makes men infertile or close to it) He had just had the operation repeated on the other side a few months earlier. His counts were still coming back that he was almost infertile. (i can't remember what his count was, for some reason i have 10 of 100 stuckin my head) Well he was the happiest guy you'd ever meet when he found out he got me pregnant with such a low count. Then he must have gotten thinking (scary) we weren't married yet and although we had been planning on having a wedding within the next year he wanted to get married before Gabrielle was born. (ahh thats a different story to post, needless to say at almost 5 mths i got married and had a nice dress hiding my belly). I have yet to have a pregnancy where at least one thing doesn't go wrong. With Gabrielle i had fainting spells. the first occured 2 days after my wedding in the middle of Mcdonalds when i was ordering my food. Never in my life had i fainted and that was just terrifying. I was rushed to the hospital to make sure everything was ok (they should just build me an apartment for when i'm pregnant). My blood pressure was up very very slightly but not enough to be a concern. Well the rest of my pregnancy passed with very little fuss, odd dizzy spell and such butt hat was all. No nausea or the usual pregnancy symptons through out the pregnancy excepting the dizzy spells. Well sure enough my husband who has a very severe case of arthritis through-out his body had to go for surgery to have a false hip umm installed (only word coming to mind at moment lol) he went into hospital on November 1st 1999. (was sad my birthday is nov.3rd) they expected him to be in hospital for 6 weeks...i was due November 6th!! His operation needed to be done since he was in constant pain even with pain killers so i didn't raise a fuss, i would make it just fine while he was in the hospital. Well his being in the hospital actually turned out for the best. November 5th i went to bed just miserable, i was the biggest grouch alive and the poor girls i rented rooms to must have been at wits end with me. Well my daughter Chelsea seemed to sense i needed snuggles so she conned me into letting her sleep with me that night. I woke up at 1 in the morning feeling like i had wet myself a bit, i got up and wandered to the bathroom thinking my bladder must be ready to explode and the baby was pinching it so i couldn't feel it. I stripped off my clothes and noticed that it was amniotic fluid (slimy, yech) but i was having no pains at all. I went and woke up my little brother (who i also rented a room to) and told him i needed to go to the hospital and could he please watch my daughter the next day till her father picked her up (Chelsea is my daughter from a previous relationship) well my dear little brother raced past me and flew down the stairs and phoned an ambulance even though i had already phoned my mom for a ride. The dispatch insisted i take an amublance even though i had a ride on the way. So off i went to the hospital dribbling the whole ride. At the hospital I explained tot he nurses that my water had broken and was dribbling out very slowly but i had no contractions at all. They did their routine exams and said I should stay even though i had no contractions. I was 5 cm dialted already with no pain and when they checked by hooking up the monitor to see my contractions they weren't showing any there either. By this time my mother had arrived at the hospital and had grabbed my morphine pumped husband from his room a floor below me. Well tot he nurses surprise my husband ran down the hall with his walker (he had only gotten his hip replaced 4 days earlier) with my mom running behind him yelling at him to get into the wheelchair (chuckle, gotta love the stubborn guy).
