About Me

Where do I begin...

Well, my name is Randell Labio, former member and clarinet player of the award-winning Keller High School Band...but now I'm a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2009! (AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!).

I'm Filipino and proud. I usually make sure people know that I'm Filipino...coz I dunno, it's fun. But, being Filipino defines me as person, coz with being Filipino: I'm close to family, I'm a very religious Catholic, and I love to eat.

I've been part of Keller ISD since elementary school...although I started out on the Fossil Ridge track, but then I moved during 4th grade to Keller. What's actually scarier is that I used to live in Euless, so...if I hadn't moved I would've been a Trojan! Scaryness. It wasn't till 5th grade that I met some of my fellow band friends like Jason Cooney, Jessie Goodman, Craig Pedersen, Tammy Hunter, and others...we go all the way back to Orange Pod at BCI! Crazy.

Naturally, I went to KMS...and I was in Mr. Winslow's first-ever class at KMS! We were a small band. I got moved up 8th Grade Symphonic Band under the direction of Mrs. Bucklew (pregnant at the time). While in that band, I had the opportunity to meet one of my close friends, Tricia Ambrose. I was in Wind Ensemble my eighth grade year and there I had the privilege to to meet Sara Baldwin and Hassie Sutton.

And then high school came...

I had an 8th Grade dream/goal of being in Symphonic Band for 2 years of High School, and then my last two in Wind Ensemble...and I very much accomplished it.

My time in the Symphonic Band was...awesome. Because Mr. Martinez is an amazing musical educator...I always looked forward to 4th period because of him. We played the coolest music, and there was never a dull moment in his class. During my sophomore year, I got first chair--something I never thought I could achieve after a long history of being 2nd chair. My favorite pieces from Symphonic Band are Vesuvius, Canzona, Abram's Pursuit, Grand Serenade for An Awful Lots of Winds and Percussion, and Midnight Fire Alarm.

Hmm, Wind Ensemble...I was intimidated by this class due to the increased musical obligations this class makes one go through, but it ended up being awesome because Mr. McGahey is a very very informative band director and I have large amount of respect for him. Let me just say...Wind Ensemble was not a walk in the park because the music always presented some sort of challenge, which was undoubtfully beneficial to my own musical growth. The pieces I liked playing while in Wind Ensemble are Masque, Polovetsian Dances, Battle of Shiloh, Sleigh Ride, Children's March, Tempered Steel, and OMG...MOLLY ON THE SHORE!!! (the uber clarinet + band piece)

Ah yeah, All-Region...after not making it for the first two years of high school, I finally made it my junior year...22nd overall, 3rd Chair Symphonic A. My senior year? I don't remember what chair overall but I was like...7th chair in Symphonic A. Yeah, it's hard to practice for all-region with AP classes and a new job.

Speaking of that new job...I WAS a cashier at Hobby Lobby in Southlake from mid-November '04 till mid-July '05. I might've rang you up, or your parents, or maybe even your colorguard instructor :-). But, I'm no longer at Hob-Lob, because it's such a hassle to work there...

So, enough about the band part of me...I graduated 23rd in my class with a GPA 101.5something. I was an AP student throughout high school and English IV AP nearly killed me, but that's ok, Ms. Whitaker is the best English teacher I've ever had. I was involved with the Spanish Club and NHS. I did lots and lots of community service at the Christian Community Storehouse, and I was also very involved with my church youth group at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Catholic Church. High school is not high school unless you've got friends to share it with. But, there's too many to list...but, Tyler Gibson, TJ Calder (non-band), Tricia Ambrose, and I go way back to middle school and I'm thankful that they've put up with me all these years.

But, I'm going to college at Texas A&M now, friends shall not be forgotten...but don't worry, I haven't lost my inner band nerd (omg, look at this website...it proves it). I LOVE THE KHS BAND, it's been the best (and the worst, in some small ways) thing that's ever happened to me in high school!!! All the memories, the best of times, the worst of times...all packed in 4 awesome years of high school band.
