Information on Who I Am
Hi, I am Colleen O'Brien.  I started to research my family history after my dad passed away in 1996, I was only 40 years old and felt very alone..  My mother had already passed away in 1985, and now that they were both gone, I was feeling a need to research my family history.

It is much smarter to ask questions when your parents are still alive! I relied on relatives to help me, and they helped me a lot, but not as much as my parents could have..  My mother was the last one on her side and I had many unanswered questions.  Luckily her grandfather on her mothers side had an uncommon name (Kibblier) which made it easy to find information on him.  Her grandfather on her fathers side was not so common (Kelley) and I could not even find where he was buried.  I did find some census information on that family which at least gave me the names of her Aunt and Uncles.  Other than that Kelley has been almost impossible to research.

My research started at the Rutgers University Library which had microfilm of the NJ Census, where I spent many hours looking through microfilm, which was very helpful.  I had also spent some time in Washington DC, but didn't have as much luck.

I also spent a lot of time writing to cemeteries asking them if they had records for some of my relatives, which also proved useful.  Some cemeteries were very helpful.  Many other relatives buried in the same plots often opened a key, when I came to a dead end.

I also sent away for death certificates and birth certificates which was also very helpful.

If you find yourself in this family tree and see any incorrect information, please contact me and send me the correct information.  Sometimes, when relatives give information it can be incorrect, and sometimes I just make typing errors.  If you want to add information on your family, I would gladly add them.  Thanks for checking out this website.
