SPECIAL DAYS

Most towns celebrate holidays with the rest of the nation, but in South Lubec we had special days we celebrated just for the fun of it. Youd have to had lived in South Lubec in the good old days to recognize some of our special occasions.

Almost every day was Lobster Day because the regulars were always talking about the catch they made that day; and occasionally treating themselves to some of their labors.

Cod Fish Day came once a month or every time someone who was a big eater came for a visit. (fish were free for the catching)   Every lobster fisherman in the room had codfish in some form or other at least four times a month.

Deer Day always came on the first day of November; that was when deer season  opened. For some reason it always seemed funny to me that a certain disease also came on the first of November. Men that worked from dawn to dusk, six days a week, always got too sick to go to work, but somehow were well enough to go hunting.

Skunk Day came in early spring. Everyone said Skunk Day was named in honor of Mr. Harry Townsons skunk story but all the kids thought it was because he was such a stinker.
