�Sometimes I wonder if all South Lubecers leave their brains here when they leave.� Haddie Minzey said one night.

   �Why do you wonder that,� Clarence asked.

   �Well you remember when my big brother Francis came back from the war he was blind. He had to go to Portland to get a seeing eye dog and he fell in love while he was there and got married.�

   �Aayah, I remember all that,� Clarence said waiting to hear something new.

   �That dog was so smart he was almost got Francis killed,� Haddie said to Clarence.

   �How did his dog almost kill him? I thought the dog was trained to protect him.� the short store owner said.

�Francis was out doing some shopping one day and he wanted to cross Congress Street so he could get a cup of coffee and a doughnut. When they came to the light Rover led Francis on across even though the light was red. Horns sounded and brakes squealed and Francis almost got hit a dozen times. After he had successfully crossed the street someone asked him if he had any idea what had just happened.

   "Rover helped me across the street, that�s all I know.� Francis replied to the question he had been asked.

   When the stranger told Francis what had happened Francis lost his breath for a minute. He reached into his pocket and took out something to give to his pet. The stranger looked at Francis and said, �Are you stupid or did already forget what just happened? Your dog almost gets you killed and you're going to give him a treat"

�Oh, I know what happened all right and I�m not giving him a treat. I�m trying to locate his head so I can give him a good swift kick on the end he sits down on.�
