Examples of our work

Translation assignments have included a client language school's website translated into German, technical articles on telecommunications and economics, and general correspondence with overseas agents. Interpreting requests range from business meetings to family discussions with government agencies. For example, LIONZ interpreters have enabled a glass factory to communicate with the technical expert sent to install a new machine, and assisted a linen merchant to set up and conduct business negotiations throughout Auckland. We have also interpreted negotiations between Chinese settlers, secondary schools and government departments, and press comments for French and Italian drivers at the recent Rally New Zealand.

Language Institute of New Zealand (LIONZ) Staff:

Director Miriam O'Connor is a fluent French and Mandarin speaker and a qualified Interpreter (NAATI and AUT Certificate of Consecutive Interpreting). She has experience in Technical, Court, Academic and Commercial translation. Her teaching experience was gained at universities in New Zealand and Asia, and she recently gained accreditation as Teaching in Higher Education from the British-based Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA). Our translators are educated native speakers of the target languages, and translations are checked or “vetted” for meaning by native English speakers familiar with the target language. In cases of special terminology or jargon, we may consult you, or (with your approval) other professionals in the field, for a specific interpretation.
