This graph indexes the median price increase (bubbles) since 2001. interestingly it shows Auckland has had the smallest increase compared to the rest of NZ Also most South Island towns have had bigger bubbles than the North . There are a few standouts namely New Plymouth and Invercargill whose values tripled over that time. Several towns have plateaued since 2005 - New Plymouth, Napier, Tauranga, Queenstown and Nelson.

The 5 biggest price increases were:
1) Invercargill
2) New Plymouth
3) Dunedin
4)Queenstown
5)Palmerston North
