Del Rio

Labour Weekend 2000....to many peoples amazement Dave, Adam and I spent a long week exploring 'La Frontiera' The border between Mexico and Texas. Specifically we visited the two US cities of Del Rio and Eagle Pass, and their two larger Mexican partners of Ciudad Acuņa and Piedras Negras. We also managed to get a good look around a few other places such as Lake Amistad (which is half US, half Mexican) and Brackettville, where they shot the 1960 movie 'The Alamo' starring John Wayne. It was a pretty interesting weekend full of new sights, good food and cheap beer. I was also very hot - but you get that I guess.... - Here are some photos from around Del Rio. This is the warning I received for driving 82 in a 70 zone. 'Ponch' made me promise to slow down and be a safe driver.

Dave received a 9.2 from the Romanian judge with this graceful effort. I think I can hear the Olympic selectors calling already....

Adam shows the locals how it is done, and how he managed to have a sore jaw the next day.

Look out Dave!! Here comes Adam!!

Here goes an elderly yachting hooligan for another fly by.

Adam still trying to get the selectors attention away from Dave

Val Verde winery in Del Rio. We sampled a few of the local wines and port then went for a quick tour. It is the oldest winery in Texas...surviving prohibition by making wine for the church....I bet the winemaker job was in demand back then.

'You can dreenk eet - but eet taste like peeez'.....

.......'That's 'cos we peeez een it!!'

Just kidding - actually the wine was pretty damn good, if they do piss in it they at least have the common courtesy to wait until after the tour.

Wine, wine and more wine...I could get used to this place.
