In the fall of 1983, thirteen freshmen and seven sophomores formed a friendship.  They wanted to form an organization unlike any other at Binghamton University.  They wanted to be part of a group that showed the true meaning of brotherhood and unity.  By the fall of 1984, these men decided to write a letter to Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

On October 7, 1984 these 20 men with a common interest became an SAAS (Social Academic and Athletic Services).  On October 21 the first Executive Board was elected.  Gary Kolinski was our first President, Michael Polis was Vice President, Dave Scolnik was Treasurer, James Ropelewski was Sergeant of Arms and Paul Carrol was Rush Chair.  Our first Member Educator was Neil Hyman.

We became a colony on February 17, 1984.  Sigma Alpha Epsilon granted us the opportunity to become a part of their family.  The members of the Alpha Pledge Class had to go through a trial period.  This allowed them to prove to everyone in Chicago, Illinois how much they really wanted to be a Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  Finally, on November 1, 1986 we became the 235th Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  As New York Omega, we joined the rest of Province Nu.

From 1986 to 2001 NY Omega has seen 30 pledge classes.  The Spring 2001 Pledge Class will be the Alpha Zetas. Times have changed as have the people whose names have been placed on the wall in the Brother Room.  However, we still strive for the same thing that the original 20 brothers desired, an organization that shows the true meaning of brotherhood and fraternity.

To fifteen years of good memories and everlasting friendships Phi Alpha!!
