Marc
Levy
was born in Paris and grew up in the South of France where he started
playing guitar at the age of nine. After his graduation in 1981 from the
French Conservatory of Music in Paris, he pursued his musical education
at Berklee Jazz School of Music in Boston where he graduated in composition
and arrangement in 1983. The same year Marc moved to New York City, where
he studies with “Avant-Garde” Jazz Violinist, Leroy Jenkins as well as
with Jazz guitarists Mike Stern and John Scofield.
Major influences from : Georges Duke, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dexter
Gordon, Kenny Baron,Wes Montgomery, Mike Stern, Jimmy Hendrix, Carlos
Santana, Joao Gilberto, Sergio Mendez, Carlos Jobim...
In 1984, Marc started working on his Jazz Brazilian project and created
his first Band “Foreign Exchange” who performed at the 7th avenue south
in New York City. Marc’s reputation of being an original player with a
fast-melodic Jazz/Fusion approach, allowed him to go on tour as a guitarist
with some Brazil Greats like Angela Suarez and Maria Rudio both in the
US and in Europe.Very talented and accomplished singer songwriter Marc
has sold his music all over the world. His CDs “Made in New York” with
Foreign Exchange and “Brazilian Dance” with jBf have been praised in Jazz
Review Magazine in the US and in JazzRama in Europe. In March 2003 jBf
‘s “Brazilian Dance” made the front page of Jazz Review Magazine.
Marc Levy is an ASCAP Songwriter Special Award recipient for 2002 2003
& 2004
Most noticeable work as a composer songwriter producer and singer: Never
Ask Me Why (1987), Your love all Around (1987), I’m waiting for you (1988),
Let me tell you how I feel (1988), the Highway of love (1988), Bahia-Bahia
(1995) and Brazilian dance (2001).
Marc
just released in April 2004 his new Live CD “Brazil in New York”.
Today Marc’s Jazz-Brazilian-Funk writing approach makes the originality
and the success of jBf.
jBf is currently performing in New York City, the tri-state area and Europe.
