| Not a kennel as such, we have obtained out first Irish Setter. Formally known as Notnyl Simply Mistaken, Zeke has taken over our lives. Whether it be at home, or the shows, Zeke has won hearts and many first place ribbons. So on to the history of this "kennel". The history of my involvement wih dogs dates back as far as my great grandmother who campaigned English Springer Spaniels. My grandmother had Welsh Springer Spaniels and handled many other gundogs. My parents are both qualified judge's, breeding and showing German Shepherd Dogs, Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) and Collie (Rough). My love for the setters began about 8 years ago when I first handled one in Junior Handling competition. From there, I have had many successes in the junior handling ring with these lovely dogs and when I left home, I found a big whole in my life as I didnt own a dog. I was contemplating between an Irish Setter and a Bernese Mountain Dog when I met Sally Underwood and Lynton Cochrane (Ornac and Notnyl kennels). Luckily for me, they had a litter on the ground, and I brought home a little bitch who I named Sammi. Knowing that she was not going to make the size needed for a show dog, Sally and Lynton offered me my second pick (well on show terms he was my first pick). Sally drove down from her home town of Echuca, Victoria, to deliver Zeke to me and to take Sammi so as she could go to a new home in Toowoomba, Queensland. Since that day, I have been astounded at the antics, hyperactivity and love that comes from the Irish Setter breed. Zeke is a favorite between the junior handlers here who are forever wanting to run him around and play with him. He has competed in two junior handlers classes with novices and has made me proud in the patience he has displayed. I hope to be able to do obedience and/or field work with him after gaining his show title, but that may be a fair way off yet as he is only (as of July 2001) 9 months old. Keep Smiling Robyn :) |
