Chapter 3

The Old Man Jeeya

“Everything is all green!” Bobby complained as he opened his eyes.

“What are you talking about?  Why would everything be green?” Catherine sat up, looking around.  “Whoa, everything is all green!”

“It seems like we’re stuck on a tree.” Lora said.  “And it seems like we’re going to fall any moment now.” At that second Bobby started to move a little and they fell right through the branches of the tree.

“AH!  WE’RE FALLING!!” Bobby screamed as they accelerated down to the ground.  “WE’RE GOING TO HIT THE GROUND!!”

            “No duh!” Catherine said casually.

“Shouldn’t we be panicking about now?” Lora asked.

But before they could do anything, they hit the ground with a massive thud.  “WAH…!!” Bobby cried as he sat up.

“Hey we’re not dead…that’s new!” Lora examined herself. “Hm…strange…  Why are you guys here?”

“We fell right before you woke up.” Tina said, still sitting on the ground.

“THEN WHY DIDN’T YOU CATCH US?!” Bobby shouted in complaint.

“Well if we could’ve we would’ve.  But if we did we’ll be as flat as pancakes by now.” Michelle added.

“So any ideas where we are?” Catherine circled around the tree.

“I don’t know, but it seems like we’re in the middle of a street with no one in sight.”  Tina answered her.

“Maybe we should try some of those houses over there.” Lora suggested.

The five of them set off towards a small green house.  They noticed that the curtains behind the windows were all drawn and the moss on top of their houses could be used as a blanket.  They reached the front steps of the house and knocked.

“I don’t think anyone is home.” Bobby said after a few minutes when nobody answered.  “Let’s try the next one.” As they went towards the next house they heard a voice.

“Forget it, nobody will answer you.” An old man sitting below a broken street lamp said quietly.  “They’re all too afraid to come out, afraid that it might be some Night Stalkers trying to steal their money or something.”

“Night stalkers?  Who the heck are they?”  Michelle asked.

“What?!  You haven’t heard of Night Stalkers?  You’re not from around here aren’t you?”  The old man said.  “Well let me introduce myself.  I’m Jeeya.  So you want to know about Night Stalkers?  Well, they’re a gang of bandits you can see.  They raid people’s houses, stealing anything they can find that are valuable.  The worst part is that when people try to stand up to them, they will kill them without any doubt.”

“They don’t sound nice.” Bobby pouted.

“Hey, you guys seem to be warriors, aren’t you?” Jeeya asked.

“Why would you think that?” Catherine questioned back.

“Well, I don’t know about you, but all the others have weapons.” Jeeya answered.

“Hey, why don’t I have a weapon?” Catherine looked around the group.

“Is that your weapon up there?” Jeeya pointed up on top of the tree.

“AHH!!  I left my weapon stuck up on the tree!” Catherine shouted as she started to climb the tree.

Sweat drops appeared on everyone’s head and they looked back at the old man.

“Maybe you should come over to my house and we’ll talk everything over.” Jeeya suggested.

“Not so fast, old geezer.” Somebody on top of a lamppost shouted down.

“It’s you!” Jeeya widened his eyes.
