| One of my favourite dances, the Merrilyn is also one of the easiest to learn. This is usually one of the first dances shown to a beginner. This is a Slow Foxtrot Rhythm dance. Its basic rhythm is Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick, Slow, After learning the steps I found this the easiest way to remember when to move. I reccomend using verbal cues to help you remember the steps to begin with, when learning the dance, I used these words: Step, Step, Side, Close, Back, Step, Step, Side, Close, Back Step, Swivel, Step, Swivel, Side, Close, Side Step, Swivel, Step, Swivel, Side, Close, Side Step, Step, Step, Lock, Step, Lift Back, Back, Back, Lock, Back Step, Step, Swivel , Out, Close. (Rotary Chasses) 123, 223, 323 Side Step, Swivel. Doesnt sound so hard does it? Its not. You just have to find the right verbal cues that work for you. And you have to remember your Left and Right. Stay upright for this dance, Whatever you do, DONT lean back, this applies for both Man and Lady, you will throw your partner off balance and you both might end up on the floor. Some of my favourite and easy to find tracks for Merrilyn are New York, New York -- Frank Sinatra Witchcraft -- Frank Sinatra King Of the Road -- Dean Martin The Best is Yet to Come -- Tony Bennett |
