Why do you hate god?

To me, there's a big difference between hating something and not believing in it. Just because you don't believe, doesn't mean you have any hatred for it.jazmommy 6/13/03

I think part of where people get confused is they think we are purposefully rejecting God. And another part is because many of us do complain (amongst ourselves) about religion. Often in sarcasm. But I think the fact is for me anyhow, I don't hate God anymore than I hate Santa Claus. Now if I daily had to fight with people over the myth of Santa (Picture arguing with adults about not getting any presents because I don't believe in Santa the way we argued as children), I'd probably get a little frustrated with those people. I don't care one bit about anybody's gods. It's the people that have a problem with me, my beliefs and others, that I don't care for.

We don't hate any god or goddess. We hate the way people behave in the name of the Judao/Christian/Muslim god. We hate the excuses given for certain actions in daily life (i.e. The Devil made me do it! Oh, my babysitter was killed in an accident but the baby lived...phrase god!) We hate war done for some god. To think one must live this life in fear of an afterlife and judgemental god is absurd.
So it's not the deity we hate; it's the people who've twisted it to explain their actions.

Atheists don't hate what they don't see as reality. I don't hate things that are pretend, but I do hate when people use that pretend thing as a big stick to beat other people into their chosen line. Wars have been fought, people say hateful things/do hateful things, all in the name of their particular brand of deity. That's what I hate. The actions that result from zealotry.

Like the other posters said, i don't hate god - you can't hate something you don't believe in. But, i hate the fact that people praise god for everything that goes right in their life - but when things go wrong it's not gods fault. That doesn't make any sense. When things go right or wrong in MY life, it's usually because of the actions that i have taken - or that another person has taken. A god does not send me my paycheck - i work to get the money. A god does not 'bless me with a child' I worked pretty hard to deliver this baby and I think I deserve the credit for taking care of him.

I hate this one...mostly because it reminds me that so many seem to hold the opinion that you cannot simply disbelieve. It must be because I hate G-d or am angry at G-d about something. I don't hate G-d - seems pretty silly when I don't even believe there is one. I do hate the hypocrisy, the prejudice, the hatred and the intolerance that I see all too often wrapped up in religions name. I do get angry that my rights and views are marginalized by people who assume we all believe the same thing or should. I get angry at people who assume that my lack of belief is the same as ignorance about religion.

I don't think you can really hate something that doesn't exist. Though I know my opinion has always been that I don't believe in god and if one actually existed it still would get no praise from me. To much bad stuff happens to good people for me to believe there is any "merciful" god. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in heaven or hell or any of the rubbish. When ya die you lay in the dirt and decompose, or ya get charred to a crisp or ya get disected. Depends on what you wanted when you die. Personally I think burial is a waste of space. I kinda look at graveyards the way I look at golf course. Big open areas of perfectly good land that could be used for a better purpose.--
