Why don't (or do) you capitalize the words "god," "zeus," "christian"?

I guess, I never really thought about this one. I don't know.jazmommy 6/6/03

I capitalize formal names like Islam, Zeus and Jehovah, but not god as this is not a formal name. If I ever miss this, it's a type-o rather than intention.

Umm, I think I usually capitalize them because of habit. And if I don't its because I'm lazy.

Because to me, they are just words.

I capitalize names such as "God" because of the fact it is technically a name. Even when names are fictional, they still get capitalized. I capitalize Santa Claus too. I capitalize the names of religions because it is my understanding that it is just appropriate grammar.

I use appropriate notation, such as omitting the o in G-d, out of respect for Hebraic tradition. I capitalize as needed, depending on the situation, subject matter at hand. Old English majors die hard.

I'd capitalize "Zeus" and "Islam" because they are proper names. "God" is not a proper name...it's an appropriated noun. I will capitalize if "god" begins a sentence.

I dont like to capitalize god, because it is taken by religious people as a sign that I think one exists and that its the ONLY one. However, I respect literary conventions and am polite to my grandma, so Im not completely consistent about what I do.

Because I try to be as Grammatically correct as possible. I capatalize the noun Satan as well.

I usually do capitalize most of them. I believe it to be just the rule with proper nouns.
