| I can still see the hurt in my mothers eyes, when we finally had to say our last goodbyes. "My trial was to short, and it was far from fair!" The sentence was given, I said a final prayer. The judge pounded his gavel,on his mighty throne. The judgement was passed - it was written in stone. That day will be one , I will never forget. I have twenty five years to pay for that debt. "In twenty five years, I'll be a man of forty three!" "My dreams will be unreachable, when I am set free." I was shackled in handcuffs, upon my hands and feet. Mother dried her eyes, and arose from her seat. She touched my arm, as I was escorted by. Unheard pleas to the judge, she started to cry. Mom knew of my honor - the only one with belief. The judge and jury only seen, the other familys grief. Although they had much evidence to prove beyond a doubt, they had much more to prove, that I was no boy scout. "Behind bars, for a death I did not commit." "I'm an innocent man, and no one gives a shit!" "I've done five years, only twenty more to go!" Will I make it through the twenty? I don't know. My mother still visits, as often as she can. She tells me I've grown into, a nice looking man. My appeals have been turned down, not enough new evidence. "I'm giving up trying, there is not much sense." His mother came to visit. Her sons lawyer by her side. Wouldn't her son be ecstatic, two witnesses had lied. The gaurd went to escort him from his harrowing cell. His mother was excited with the news she had to tell. The gaurd let out a shriek,as he saw hanging from a rope, the body of an innocent man, who had given up hope. copyright - Tracey Irving |
