The NVP Clinic at Surrey Memorial HospitalSurrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is located in the Fraser South Area of the Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia. At SMH a recent initiative (May 2002) is the NVP Clinic in the Family Birthing Unit (FBU). The clinic operates 7 days/week, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Women who are experiencing uncontrolled NVP and dehydration come for treatment on an outpatient basis. Women diagnosed with Hyperemesis are admitted as inpatients. Since there is no single causative factor associated with NVP there are numerous strategies employed to reduce symptoms. Women may try several therapies before they find one that helps them (Cowan, 1996). Nursing Care in the NVP Clinic includes comfort measures and patient education. Women are taught various strategies to assess themselves and to self-regulate treatment to decrease symptoms. The ultimate goal is to improve quality of life for these women. The nurses who care for women in the NVP Clinic at SMH have developed tips for reducing, and coping with the symptoms of NVP. We hope that the following web pages will answer commonly asked questions, and benefit both women and health care providers, throughout the Fraser Health Authority.www.fraserhealth.ca ![]() |
