Assessment

Pain is a predictable and often unavoidable consequence of surgery.
Providing relief is a primary nursing responsibility.

It is the nurse who:

  • spends time with the patient
  • coordinates the plan of care
  • identifies a need for change
  • facilitates that change
  • and evaluates the outcome
