| Being famous isn't all it's cracked up to be. Always out on the road away from the people you care about. I can't go out in public anymore without being mobbed. My nerves are shot and I feel I'm on the verge of a breakdown. And for what? A little recognition? Had I know what was in store for me I never would have signed that contract. But the more I think of it, the more I realize how lucky I am. The more I realize how wrong I am. The simple love of people unknown to me makes everything else seem like petty problems. It makes everything better. Maybe if I had someone to share it with my life would be better, my mind could be saved. I walked out of the bus where I had been held captive for the past two hours. The fresh air had a whole new meaning to me. I took as much of it in as I could before being drug to some promotional thing. "Where am I going today?" I asked Bill, one of my body guards. He looked down at a piece of paper. "Radio stations. 85.6 KRD at one, 102.4 LNS at two thirty, and 73.9 MPZ at four. Then you come back here for a little dinner and warm up, and then the concert at seven." "And then I go to sleep, wake up and start the whole thing over again, right?" He smiled. "Wrong. You obviously have lost track of days. Tomorrow you're playing here again. You have the whole day to yourself, your friends are coming over." "That's tomorrow? Great!" "Yep. But today you have stuff to do. So, go get ready. You're leaving in fifteen minutes." He handed me my key and I ran to my room. A whole day of relaxation, and I completely forgot about it? It makes sense though, all the days run together for me. I used to judge the passing of days by when I woke in the morning, but now I sleep whenever I have time. Rarely do I sleep at night. So I had no clue my friends were coming tomorrow. I quickly brushed my teeth and changed for my interview at the radio station. All the while I thought of what my friends and I would do when they got here. It's been so long since I've seen them, I miss them terribly. I looked at myself in the mirror and ran my fingers through my hair. "You need to die your hair again, girl." There was a knock at the door. "Are you ready?" Bill asked. "I thought I had fifteen minutes!" "Oops, I lied. Hurry up." I rolled my eyes and smiled. Just like Bill. We got to the radio station and Bill went up with me. "You are going to stay, right?" I asked. "Of course. Don't want the dj trying to kill you." I smiled. "You know they'll try." "Yep." We got to the door and looked into the window. The dj looked up and waved us in. "If the questions get too personal or weird could you please stop them?" I asked before we walked in. "Just give me a signal." "Can do." We went in and I took a seat across from the dj. He took off his head set and shook my hand. "I must say it's a pleasure to finally meet you. I've spent months playing your music and people keep calling in asking when you're coming to town for a concert and when I'm going to have you here." I smiled. "Well it's great to be here." "Did you just get in?" "Yeah, about ten minutes ago." He laughed. "Having fun so far?" "Oh yes. Like you wouldn't believe." He smiled. "Well, I'm Dave. We'll be going on air in a few seconds, so put on your head set." I did as I was told and the sign saying "On The Air" lit up. "I'm here with Kara Harper, pop singer for the new generation....." The rest of the day went by painfully slow. Pointless question after pointless question. Although once or twice Bill had to stop the questions because they got way too personal. Is there a deep need to know about my sex life? Why are they always asking about stupid stuff like that? If I wanted to tell them, I would have done it a long time ago. I can't lose my temper though, that would be all over the news in a matter of two seconds. So I sit there with the most polite smiled I can bear with and tell them I would prefer not to answer. You think they'd get it. I sat down at the table with Bill and a few other crew members to eat dinner. The pizza was sat in the middle of the table for us to pick away at. "They asked you about that again?" Mitch, one of my back up dancers, asked. "Yeah. But thanks to good 'ol Bill here they moved on to different questions." I said patting Bill on the back. He smiled. "What would you do without me?" "Probably die." I said picking up a piece of pizza. "You ever going to tell them you're a virgin?" Mitch asked. "No. I'll let them think what they will. I like knowing they're wrong." He laughed. "You're such a little tease." "I know. It's best that way." I looked down at the pizza and smiled. It reminds me of home. We always got pizza because everyone was too busy to cook or go out and get something. I wish I were there right now. "I am so ready for tomorrow. I'm gonna sleep till three and then lay around my room eating and watching tv." Mitch said. "You live such an exciting life." Don, my guitarist, said sarcastically. "And what are you planning on doing, pray tell?" "I'm going to see my girlfriend. She lives a few miles from here." "And that's so much better than what I'm going to be doing?" "Yes. I'm going to be doing something." "Or someone." Bill said with a smirk on his face. "Damn straight." Don said. I smiled. This family's so much more interesting. I sat on a couch backstage as my opening acts performed. Bill sat down next to me. "You ok?" he asked. "I'm good. Just a little exhausted. I need a little break time tomorrow, even if I'm not really going to have a break." "Sure you are. The only thing you have to do is a show. The rest of the day is yours." I smiled. "Your extreme optimism makes up for my pessimism. Thank you." "Whatever I could do to help. You better get up, you're going on in a few." I stood up and we walked to the last room before the stage. He put his arm around my shoulders. "Be happy for me, ok?" I smiled. "Can do." I woke up the next morning to sunlight filling my room to the point my eyes watered. I slugged to the window and pulled the blinds shut. "Damn sunlight." I mumbled as I walked to the bathroom. Big day ahead of me. Gotta be ready for my friends... I've missed them so much. I took a shower and dried my hair as fast as I could. I got dressed and looked at my watch. Eleven. They'll be getting here soon. I ran out of my room and down to the lobby where people were dragging suitcases outside. Must be check out time. I walked outside and the heat overwhelmed me. I squinted my eyes to see if they were anywhere near, and when I saw they weren't I went back inside. I sat down on a couch and crossed my legs. People walked past me. I love watching people, they're so funny. Tapping my feet and watching people pass by, I completely lost track of time. When I saw Belle and Tammy walk in I looked at my watch to see it was nearly noon. I jumped up and ran to them. "Kara! Baby!" Tam yelled hugging me. "Guys! Oh my God, I'm so happy you're here!" I screamed. Belle laughed and tossed her straight, blonde hair over her shoulder. "I believe you've finally lost it. And what have you done to your hair?" "Is that all you can think about?" I joked. "Yes. So what did you do?" "I dyed it." "Well no shit." "I like it. Red looks good on you." Tam said. "It's Maroon dear." Belle said. Tam stuck her tongue out. "Excuse me for not being so fashionably intelligent." She smiled. "Well, where's your room? I wanna see!" Belle said. "Right this way ladies." I said leading them to the elevator. We walked onto the stage and Belle took the microphone. "Is this on? Oh, it is." she said into it. "What are you doing?" Tam asked. "I wanna be Kara! Put on some music!" I walked to the sound board and hooked it up to the radio they had sitting next to it. This seems to happen a lot around here. 'Turn on the radio! I want to dance to something!' "Ok! Radio's on!" Music poured out of the speakers and Belle swished her hair once more before singing along. Tam fell on the floor laughing as Belle started dancing around the stage as well. I smiled. "You should be the one on stage every night." I said to Belle. She turned to me and smiled. "I know." Bill walked out onto stage and gave Belle a weird look. He turned to me. I smiled. "Guys! Come here!" I yelled. I turned off the radio and Belle and Tammy came over to us. "Guys, this is one of my bodyguards, Bill. Bill, this is Belle and Tammy. My, uh, best friends." He smiled and shook their hands. "It's nice to meet you." Tammy giggled. "It's nice to meet you." "Kara, why didn't you tell me you had such a hot bodyguard?" Belle asked. Bill blushed. "Knock it off. I'll be right back." I took Bill's arm and we walked backstage. "Did you want anything?" I asked. He smiled. "I wanted to ask you when they're leaving." "Tonight." "When tonight?" I raised my eyebrow. "Around ten. Why?" "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out and do something." I smiled. "Like what?" "I don't know. Get some ice cream?" I smiled again. "Oh Bill, that's so sweet. Of course I'll go with you. Just, uh, come to my room around ten thirty and we'll go." He smiled. "Ok, I'll see you then. Bye." he said happily, walking off. I walked back to the stage. "Where did you go?" Tam asked. "I had to talk to Bill. He's taking me out tonight." "On a date?" Belle asked. "I don't know." "Where's he taking you?" Tam asked. "Out to get some ice cream." "Aww! I think it's a date!" Tam said. I smiled. "Well, come on. We're going to the movies. Let's go!" I said dragging them off the stage. "Kara, he really is cute." Belle said. "I know." I said smiling. "So, how long have you known him?" Tam asked. "For two years, when I started needing a body guard." "That's so cute." "Uh, ok." After the show I walked Tam and Belle to their cab. "So, I'll talk to you guys later." "Ok. Bye! Have fun tonight!" Tam said. "Yeah, have a lot of fun." Belle said, winking. "Shut up. Bye guys." "Bye!" Tam said closing the door. I watched them drive away and after ran to my room to get ready. I can't believe he asked me out on a date. I've always thought he was cute, but I never knew he thought that about me. I giggled as I stepped onto the elevator. Maybe he'll kiss me. Oh God, I hope he kisses me. I opened my door and saw Bill standing there. I smiled. "Hi. Ready to go?" he asked. "Of course." He took my hand and we walked out of the hotel. "We'll be taking a car of course. I don't want anyone mobbing you on the street." I smiled. "Well duh. What would you do without me?" "Look for another job." he said smiling. "You'd miss me." I said nudging him in the arm. "If you say so." I snorted. "Fine, be that way. I didn't like you anyway." He smiled and opened the car door for me. "So you did like me?" I smiled and got in without saying anything. He shut the door and walked around to his side. He got in and started the car. We drove in silence. I took the opportunity to really look at him, I realized I've never done that. He looked intently on the road with the slightest smile on his face. I could see his muscles under the sleeves of his t-shirt, which made my mouth almost water. I smiled as he looked at me. "What?" he asked. "Nothing." I said looking out the window. "When this tour's over I'm going to sleep for a month straight." I told Bill as we ate ice cream in the car. "Same here." I smiled and looked into his eyes. He smiled at me. "What do you keep looking at?" he asked. "You, silly." "Oh, really? Why?" "Because you're so dang cute." He blushed and looked away. "Aww, and so modest too." I said. "Stop, you're embarrassing me." I laughed. "Ok, whatever you say." He looked back at me and sat his ice cream cup down. He leaned over and kissed me. Ever felt like you were just absolutely melting? Yeah, that's what happened when he kissed me. He stopped as I tried to clean myself up from the puddle I was. I smiled softly and he quickly kissed me again. "Uh, you ready to go back?" "Yeah." I said quietly. Honestly, words can't describe how I felt. The way he kissed me just made everything better. I wish he'd never stop. He started the car and we started to drive back to the hotel. "So, uh, what are you doing tonight?" I asked. Oh God, what am I doing? Just begging to have sex, that's what. Man. "I don't know. Sleeping, I guess." "Oh.... You wanna hang out with me?" Can you sound any more desperate? He smiled. "Sure." The way he touches me, the way his lips touch mine is enough alone to make me do anything. But the way he talks to me... It's no wonder we're laying on my bed making out right now. I normally am not like this, so easy. He knows what I am though, he would never make me do that. At least I hope he wouldn't. It's amazing how much you don't know about people. He ran his fingers across my lips and smiled. "What are you doing?" he asked. "What?" "I know you're a virgin. Why are you doing this?" I sat up. "Uh, I just want to be close to you." He sat next to me and put his arms around me. "You can be close to me this way." I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder. "Thank you." I whispered. |
