| Are those his parents? Chris whispered to Margaret. Sure are. Their table sat in the last pew of the church with guards on each end of the pew. It had been three days since Kyle had taken his own life and things in Chris life had been hectic to say the least. So far nothing much had been said about the whole ordeal. No complaints from anyone though; no one was quite ready to talk about it. Never did they ever imagine that he would go through with his threats, especially now that he was on the medication. Dr. Lauren now had them all in for group sessions with the psychologist once a day. Ironic that they were now stuck with the person Kyle hated the most, the person now trying to comfort them from losing him. Crystal laid her head on Chris shoulder and closed her eyes. No doubt she was now sleeping less than he was. He ran his fingers through her hair and laid his head on hers. Margaret looked at them and managed to muster up a smile. Kyle was a great person, someone from the front said into the microphone. Despite his troubles with life, we all loved him dearly. He will be missed greatly. David snorted. What a load of shit. They dont love him. Kandi jabbed him in the side. Stop it. Youre being disrespectful. He shrugged his shoulders and crossed his arms. You mean we cant stay? Kandi asked Dr. Lauren angrily. No, Im sorry. This in itself is against company policy. Youre lucky you even got to come today. They were all pushed into the van to take them back to the hospital. Crystal hadnt said anything all day and Chris was beginning to get worried. As the van pulled away Chris watched as they took the coffin out of the church and put it into the hearse. This is bull shit, Kandi mumbled. Margaret smiled and folded her hands. So Whats going on with you two? she asked Chris and Crystal happily. Id rather not talk right now, Crystal said quietly. She frowned and looked to Chris. He shrugged his shoulders and looked worriedly at Crystal. Are you ok? he whispered. Fine. Im fine. I just dont get it. He was on medication; it was supposed to make him better! Crystal said while pacing back and forth through Chris room. Maybe he stopped taking it. The old him had to be alive in there somewhere. She sighed and sat down next to him in an attempt to calm down. Why isnt anyone upset? she whispered. We knew him longer than you and we know that he was miserable. Deep down we know that hes finally happy. Im not saying that what he did was right, no, far from it. He could have grown up to be something great. But, we know that thats what he truly wanted. She started crying. I want to get out of this place. Please, get me out of here. He wrapped his arms around her. Please dont cry. Kiss me, she whispered looking into his eyes. Im sorry, come again? She smiled and ran her fingers across his cheek. Kiss me. A million thoughts raced through his head as she continued to stare in anticipation. Should he kiss her? Was he ready? Was she ready? Slowly he leaned in and kissed her. She pulled him roughly close to her. His heart began pounding in his chest; his palms got sweaty. There was a knock at the door and he jumped nervously. She frowned as he got up to answer it. The door opened to reveal David. You guys ready for our daily nut appointment? Uh, uh, sh-sure, Chris stuttered. Whats wrong with you? Nothing David, Crystal said getting up. Well meet you down there. Alright. See ya. Crystal closed the door and turned to Chris. Whats wrong? she asked. Nothing. Im just Im just not used to this is all. Do you regret it? No! No, thats not what I meant. She smiled and patted him on the shoulder. Come on, lets go. Mr. Kirkpatrick, could you stay after for a while? the psychologist asked after their session had ended. He turned around and shifted nervously. Uh, sure. Ill see you at dinner, Crystal whispered into his ear as she left the room. Could you close the door please? the psychologist asked returning to his desk. He did as he asked and sat down in a chair opposite him. He folded his arms and looked questioningly at the Dr. Oh, dont look so terrified. I have good news. We here at this institution keep an eye on each of our patients. We all agree that you have made tremendous progress. If you feel that you are ready to leave, you may do so at any time. I-Im free to go? He smiled. You make it sound like jail. Well... At any rate, yes, you are free to go. He smiled ecstatically. Uh, can I go now? Yes, you can go. He jumped up and ran straight to Crystals room. Crystal! Crystal! I have great news! Open the door! What? she asked opening it. Im out of here! Huh? The psychologist said Ive made progress and that I can go whenever I want! Oh, she said sadly. What? Nothing, she said moving away from the door so he could go in. He walked inside and closed the door. Whats wrong? And tell me the truth. Well, its just that Ive lost Kyle, and that was hard enough, but now Im losing you? But youre not losing me. Yes I am. Why would you want to come back here to the crazy people once you got out? I know I certainly wouldnt want to. But youre here, and youre not crazy. She smiled. Dont try to make me feel better. Just leave now so I dont get even more attached than I already am. Crystal, youre not going to lose me. II think Im falling in love with you. She looked up, shocked. What did you say? I said I think Im falling in love with you. She smiled and tears formed in her eyes. I-I He walked up to her and kissed her softly. I cant believe this. Youre over her. I guess I am, he said kissing her again. So, when am I going to come see this beautiful house you keep talking about? Crystal asked while sitting on Chris bed while he packed his things. As soon as you can get out of here. So, be on your best behavior. Oh, I will be. David came up to the open door and smiled. I hear youre finally able to get out of here. You heard right. Im leaving tomorrow morning. Someones going to have to call me whenever one of you gets out. Well have to have a party. And Ill get to bring some of my medicine. Thats always fun. You know it. Kandi ran up and bounced into the room. You little bastard! I cant believe youve gotten out of here! she yelled slapping his arm playfully. You better believe it. Margaret slowly walked into the room. Did you all plan this together? I cant believe you got out so fast. Im gonna miss you buddy, she said patting him on the back. Im going to miss you guys too. So, what convinced them to let you out? David said sitting down next to Crystal. They said that Ive improved. Does that mean that youre over her? Kandi asked. He smiled. I guess so. |
