John Wiese "collected tracks" cd (helicopter 06) $8ppd
Wiese has been cranking out quality noise recordings for years and has recently gained recognition as the non-Wood half of Bastard Noise. This collection contains several solo pieces as well as collaborative works with Cory Ronnau (Sissy Spacek) and the aforementioned Eric Wood. There's definetely a variety of sounds here, enough to keep it fresh and interesting but also with enough familiarity to keep it within the boundaries of the noise scene. Distorted loops, bleeps, blips, volcanic rumblings, wide open outer space vacuums, the feedings of giant mechanical bugs...just a small sampling of images these sounds conjure. My recommendation is that you turn out the lights, slap on the disc, and see what you come with in your own adventure into sound. chris dodge (short, fast+loud #7)
