This was my trusty old car...The first car I had ever owned! Attained Dec '01
Check out the mods i had on this baby: Mods
At the age of 17, I was luckily able to aquire this car through my friend Aaron
He informed me that his uncle used to own a black EF Si, and left for HK 6 years ago... Since then, the car has been left in a garage and was never touched. I offered him 300 to buy the car, but he graciously declined the money and just gave me the car for free. I towed the car to a shop and instantly went around looking for a cheap yet effective engine swap.
After a lot of painstaking research, i stumbled accross the ZC engine. It was a D series motor and could still utilize the stock motor mounts that i already had in the car! so i thought "great!" that's got to be cheap. Now the problem was finding a good and reliable engine importer. It was then that I met my good friend Vivek. He had hookups to an engine importer and helped me get my engine and tranny for 600 taxes in with delivery. Good deal? YES! =)
I then went looking for a shop...and found a shady shop that agreed to do my swap for 500 bucks with a LOT of haggling. Mind you, at this time I had no hookups and had no idea what to look for and what was a realistic price. 500 for a zc swap is EXPENSIVE!
Once the engine was in, i experienced tire spinning mad power!!! The engine itself was not powerful but 130hp coupled to a 2200lb chassis that was stripped made for lots of torque steer which gave the effect of mad power =)
I raced various cars with my EF and the most memorable one was vs a 2000 prelude. 200hp 2.2L vtec motor vs me and my little whimpy 1600cc D series engine. Off the line i took him by a lot!! Surprisingly, 1st and 2nd gear i was quite a ways ahead of him!!! Since i was so happy, I managed to grind 3rd gear...and he passed me =( damn.
Eventually, i went to Shannonville Race Track where shockingly, i managed to kick some ass!! ^^
Thanks to my previous track experiences with kart racing, I have the knowledge of feeling for the car, taking the proper lines and was able to take the car pretty much to it's limits.(mind u, the car was on bald 4 season tires and stock suspension). I received much praise for my skill from my track buddies which further gave me even more enthusiasm in the area of track racing.
Sadly though, one day at Shannonville, i blew the ZC to shreds. I guess shifting at 7700rpm all day wasnt very nice for the engine -_- a rod let loose and flew out of my block. A nice fist sized hole was punched through, my exhaust cam was snapped into 3 individual peices and virtually all my valves were bent to shit. pretty kool huh?
My most famous stupid act must've been rolling the EF! one day...it was kinda raining. it was also the time when i first picked up my slicks...so i was quite eager to use it! once we arrived to the track the rain stopped...but the track itself was still wet!! well....since i'm a brain dead idiot, i proceeded to put on the slicks regardless of the track conditions and drove on the track! well shortly after turn 3 of the nelson track in shannonville, my rear end swung around and my car slid into the grass...now since the grass was wet, the wheels dug into the soft dirt and the car slowly rolled over. if i can get pics of it i'll post it up!!
After that incident, i fixed up the ef and had lots of new plans for it. After many visits to dseries.org, i learned a lot about the potential of a sohc engine...and came up with many ideas for the little sohc motor that was currently in my car... I also picked up some H&R sport springs just to drop the car a little....and it looked GREAT!
Shortly after though, i landed on a great deal for an AE92 GTS from my friend who tracks also...so i couldnt resist!! I sold my EF to a friend and picked up the AE92.
