2001 NTFL PREVIEW by Haywood J

'Sup everybody. I am writing this season preview for the NTFL because, well, I don't really have anything better to do. To introduce myself, I won't give you all my name, but I just want you all to know that I have been playing Tecmo Super Bowl for about, well, since it came out. I've been playing it online for a while...and some may consider me a legend. I know I consider myself one, but that's only because I am a cocky SOB. For now, you all can call me Haywood J.

Keep in mind that much of this is based on my research, which consists of trying to find out about all you players from other tecmoers, other leagues, and looking at your teams' strengths and weaknesses. Sorry about not being able to play every last one of you, or even many of you. So I'm not trying to insult you or anything--if and when you prove me wrong by going completely the opposite of what I say, please don't come and kick my ass.

AFC EAST:
1. Miami Dolphins 12-4 (*)
2. New York Jets 10-6 (*)
3. Buffalo Bills 8-8
4. New England Patriots 7-9
5. Indianapolis Colts 6-10

The Miami Dolphins may seem like a surprise pick to go this high, but believe me, MJ23 is damn good. In the OTFL, he went 13-3 with the pathetic Detroit Lions. The Dolphins may be a bit more pathetic, but MJ is certainly not. I like the Jets to go to the playoffs, especially headed by dliefriaf. He has a 14-7 record in the TPA, which isn't much to scoff at. Don Beebe, whom I have never played, has a good shot at using Eric Moulds and Sam Cowart to enjoy some success, but their lack of a secondary is likely to bring them down in the end. New England has a very good team, but I am not sure of vipers' abilities. With Edgerrin James, Indy has one of the more potent offensive attacks in the league, but their utter lack of defense will prevent them from getting out fo the cellar.

AFC CENTRAL:
1. Baltimore Ravens 10-6 (*)
2. Tennessee Titans 10-6 (*)
3. Jacksonville Jaguars 7-9
4. Cincinatti Bengals 4-12

This division is odd. All of the teams that are in it are great, but I am completely unsure of the coaches, seeing as they are all new to me. Led by their excellent QB-WR tandem and great secondary, look for the Ravens to come out on top. However, they will be challenged by the Titans, who somehow got ahold of Ray Lewis, who, in ironic combination with Eddie George, looks likely to anchor this playoff team. The Jaguars have a pretty good team all-around, but I am not sure if they can pull out a great season. And, of course we have the Bengals. No season preview for any league would be complete without someone ridiculing them...but hey, I'm trying to be a nice guy, so I won't.

AFC WEST:
1. Seattle Seahawks 12-4 (*)
2. Denver Broncos 9-7 (*)
3. Oakland Raiders 8-8
4. Kansas City Chiefs 6-10
5. San Diego Chargers 3-13

This division is the opposite of the Central. Bad Teams, Good players. Without a doubt, Errol will take the division, seeing as he has all he needs: a marquee DB and a decent offense. Denver, led by XRayMind, a frequenter of the Tecmo Message Board, should be able to ride their two stud LBs and, of course, Terrell Davis, to the playoffs (just barely though). Fart Rhino, another frequenter, should be pretty good. Kansas City, in the ultimate irony, has the best QBs in the league and the worst WRs. OOPS. And, of course, San Diego. San Diego is bad in real life, and from the way Instant has played in the TPA, don't look for them to do a whole lot better in the NTFL.

NFC EAST:
1. Dallas Cowboys 10-6 (*)
2. Washington Redskins 8-8
3. Arizona Cadinals 7-9
4. Philadelphia Eagles 6-10
5. New York Giants 5-11

Dallas has a well-rounded team, but Washington has a very good defense and is liable to catch them. I really don't have much to say about this division, because I don't know many of the players. However, I do know that roadie is pretty decent in the OTFL, doing fairly well with the lowly Bears. I don't really know much about the Eagles or the Giants other than the fact that they have mediocre-to-poor defenses and so-so offenses.

NFC CENTRAL:
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13-3 (*)
2. Minnesota Vikings 11-5 (*)
3. Green Bay Packers 10-6 (*)
4. Detroit Lions 5-11
5. Chicago Bears 4-12

Holy shit, this division is definitely stacked like Tawny Peaks. Tampa Bay is by far the best team in the league talent-wise. The have two great DBs, LBs, and a damn fine offensive attack. Also, the Minnesota Vikings cannot be overlooked, especially since Deadeye has done so incredibly well in the TPA. The Packers are definitely my darkhorse team. They are very well-rounded and have the potential to make some noise come the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, Detroit and Chicago are probably good players, but honestly, they are stuck with subpar teams in a division with 3 playoff caliber teams.

NFC WEST:
1. St. Louis Rams 11-5 (*)
2. San Francisco 49ers 10-6 (*)
3. Atlanta Falcons 7-9
4. New Orleans Saints 5-11

Polish Rifle is pretty damn good, and he can do some major damage with the Rams, especially with a good linebacker (and yes, he has one). The 49ers, powered by their good WRs and decent DBs should get to the playoffs. The Falcons don't have much going for them except their DBs, and the Saints have the second worst team in the game...ouch.

(*) denotes playoff team.

I won't write out the playoffs, but I WILL make my super bowl prediction.

Tampa Bay over Seattle

I AM OUT.
