| Chapter 38 "You liked that didn't you?" Mackenzie said as her eyes locked on Jeff. "Oh yes, that was quite enjoyable, now that I think about it." Jeff said placing the phone down on a table beside the wall. "You're so stupid!" Mackenzie said her voice almost a laugh "Excuse me?" There was a noise upstairs and for a minute Jeff looked panicked. "Oh, goody the others are here!" he said with delight. "The others?" Mackenzie thought to herself. There were more people in on this? She closed her eyes and thought for a moment. "Calling Justin was stupid." she said trying to get him angry. "Oh no..." he was about to speak again but Mackenzie interrupted him. "Unlike you, Justin has a brain. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. He'll know that it's you in time." She looked at Jeff and knew that he wasn't catching on, "You just called Justin two times in a row. One call right after the other." Jeff's face turned a little paler, "No one is stupid enough to look over the fact that you called one minute and than the next "some one" else called. I have two words for you Jeff, Caller...Id." she said with satisfactory. The noises upstairs where getting louder and Mackenzie could faintly hear the voices of different people ahead. Jeff looked nervous and Mackenzie knew that he had never thought of that fact. The voices were closer still and some one was about to open the basement door. "Look....just don't...DON'T say anything about that call!" Jeff warned her as footsteps where coming down the creaking stairs. Mackenzie's eyes didn't blink when she stared at the two people who were now visible down in the basement. She should have known all along that this wasn't something anyone could pull off alone. "Hello, Ms. Hope." Jack Martins, Mackenzie's former manager said as his finger trailed along her shoulder just like Jeff had done a little while ago. "Ohh...I see we have an extra! What a great surprise!" He said walking over to Sam's unconscious figure. "Don't touch her." Mackenzie said in a rigid voice. "Oh, shut up." Cara said, "You're nothing more than a stupid, naive whore, Mackenzie! Thats what you are!" Mr. Martins glanced at her as he said, "You two may go now." "Aww, but Jack I want to stay and see all the fun!" Cara said in her high pictched annoying voice. "I'm not leaving." Jeff said standing behind Mackenzie, "She's mine now." Mackenzie said a quick prayer of thanks when she heard Jeff say these words. This was just what she needed, for them to fight. Maybe it would cause some sort of distraction... "I told you what the circumstances where , Jeff...Cara...leave NOW! I'm done with you." "No." Jeff said firmly, "Things have changed. I got her here...I want her now. She's mine and you can't take her." Mackenzie's head was jerked back against the chair as Jeff took out a knife and held it so close that it brushed across her neck causing a giant cut. "Shit!" Mackenzie yelled in pain but she was ignored. "Jeff....get away. You'll get your money now leave." Mr. Martins said getting impatient. "No...You leave." if he wasn't irrational before Mackenzie didn't know what he was now. "Jeff...come one, Sweetie. We should go. We are going to get our money! Think about once she's gone...no one will know...she'll be dead by then-" "SHUT UP!" Jeff and Martins both yelled simultaneously. So that was his plan, Mackenzie thought. He had hired Jeff and Cara to get her here and now he was going to kill her and take the blame. "Jeff....just go...save yourself..." Mackenzie said trying to plead with him, but Jeff didn't move. "Jeff." Martins said firmly reaching his hand behind his jacket and pulling out a small black gun. "Leave. Now." he said pointing the gun at him. "Jeff, come on! Lets go!!!" Cara said "Just go, Jeff." Even Mackenzie didn't want to see this. "Listen to her!" Martins yelled, "After all this time, after all you've done for me she is still pleading with you and trying to save your life. Stupid girl!" Martins yelled "I...I don't care...I'm not leaving with out her. I got her here and she's mine. I'll...I'll kill her! I'll kill her RIGHT NOW!" he yelled. Mackenzie was confused. Why was Mr. Martins objecting to Jeff for him to kill her? She figured the only reason that could be was that Martins wanted to do it himself. "Jeff you have until the count of five." He raised his gun aimed at Jeff. "Don't think that I won't do this, Jeff." "Come on, Jeff. She's not worth it!" Cara yelled from the stairs. "One..." Martins said "I'm not leaving." Jeff stated as his grip around Mackenzie got tighter. "Two..." "Jeff, GOO!!" Mackenzie yelled in pain. "Shut up!" he said to both Mackenzie and Cara "Three...Just go, Jeff." "You might as well just shoot me now because I'm not leaving." All of a sudden Martins fired his gun which sent a bullet flying in the air. Jeff fell back on to the ground clutching his chest. "I did this for you, Mackenzie! I loved you!" he said weakly as his eyes shut. And those were his last words. Cara ran over to him and checked his pulse. "He's...he's dead....you...you KILLED him!" she yelled as she ran up the stairs. "Wait! Cara!! FUCK!" Martins yelled as he got to the top stair, but it was too late. Mackenzie could hear the car pulling out of the driveway and she only hoped that Cara would do the right thing. Mackenzie was never afraid of Jeff, but Mr. Martins was a whole different story. Mackenzie watched as he angrly came down the stairs. The look on his face almost made her want to give up hope but she thought of Justin. She was going to get out of this and now with a little bit of luck and wit it might just happen. She looked away as Martins acame by and shoved Jeff's dead body into the closet. "I warned him. Take that as a lesson, Kenzie." "Why...why are you doing this to me?" she said quietly trying to hid some of her fear. Martins let out an evil laugh., "Why not?" "They're going to be here soon." Mackenzie said trying to cause some sort of reaction in him. "Of course you would think that dear. Justin isn't smart enough to figure out where we are." he said as he cleaned up the area where Jeff's dead body had laid. "Jeff called them....he said he was tired of your games....and he called them and told them we were here." So it was a lie but it was the first thing that popped into her head. What? Martins said in a harsh voice He called them about an hour ago It wont matterby the time they get here youll be gone. He said crouching down next to her, Poor Makcenzielook at this cut. I better go upstairs and get the first aid kit. Dont you move now. Mr Martins said with an evil laugh as he began to walk up the creaking stairs. Mackenzie waited until he was upstairs before letting out a loud sigh of exhaustion. Things werent looking like they were going to be in her favor anytime soon. Perhaps it was time to start to except what her fate could be. |
