Chapter 39
Chapter 39
There was a commotion coming from down the hall as Justin ran over to see what was going on. "Justin, any word on Mackenzie?" Mackenzie's father yelled as he ran pass security members.
"I know where she is, we need your help to get there." Justin said as he explained everything to Mr. Hope.
Night had fallen on them and by the time Justin explained everything to Mr. Hope it was almost 9pm. Mr. Hope had told them it would take about 2 hours to get to the house, so in about a 25 minute time span everyone was on there way. The police in Rhode Island had been called and they were on their way to the house, also. Justin only wished that he could be there before the police arrived but he knew that this was all coming to an end. Pretty soon he would be there with Mackenzie and everything would be on the way to being ten times better than it was before.
Just as everyone was in their respective cars a thought hit Justin. What if Mackenzie wasn't there?

Mackenzie closed her eyes as the smell of food cooking upstairs flooded the basement. She hadn't eaten anything in almost 2 full days and it was beginning to ware her down. Mr. Martins had left her and Sam downstairs while he causally got himself something to eat. He wasn't a smart as Mackenzie thought he was. She looked around the room and noticed Sam moving her head as if she was waking up.
"Sam, Sam!" Mackenzie whispered careful not to let Mr. Martins hear. But she didn't answer.
Mackenzie looked around the room once again looking for something to help her untie the ropes again and hoping something would trigger a plan in her mind. Looking around she noticed the vent gate that was lying on the floor. If it had worked the first time it would work now. As quietly as she could she shifted in the chair back and forth moving her way over to the wall where the vent lay.
Once she reached the wall she had to push her self over on the side so she could reach it and begin to cut the ropes. It took her a little longer this time since she was careful not to cut the part of her arm that she had cut last time.
"What the hell are you doing down there?" Mr. Martins called; she could hear his hand on the doorknob.
Mackenzie stopped dead, "Noth...nothing." she yelled back hoping he wouldn't come down. She heard the oven timer beep and Martins returned back to his eating.
Once the ropes were cut she quickly untied her sore ankles and stood up for the first time in about 16 hours.  She picked up her chair and placed it where it had been before she moved and ran over to Sam.
"Sam!" Mackenzie said to her and she leaned in front of her chair untying her ropes. "Sam, wake up."
Sam's eyes blinked several times before focusing on Mackenzie. "Mackenzie...what...why...oh my god, no." She said as the realization hit her.
"Sam, we have to get out of here. Are you hurt?"
"I don't know...my side hurts, it's not bad though."
"I have a plan. We are going to get out of here. Walk around a bit so you can be ready to run."
Sam stood up and began to slowly limp around the room as Mackenzie told her the plan. Mackenzie prayed that her plan would be successful. She knew that after Martins ate he was going to get down to business which meant they didn't have much time.
They heard footsteps from upstairs coming closer and the both sat back down into their chairs with their hands behind their backs like they were still tied in. Sam closed her eyes and rolled her head to the side as if she was still unconscious and Mackenzie pretended to struggle in the chair.
"It's not worth it." he said in response to her struggle.
"Justin's going to be here soon. He'll show you." She said as Martins came closer.
"That's why we are going to get going." he said standing in front of her with his back to Sam.
"Going...where?" Mackenzie said as Sam stood from behind him.
Martins must have seen Mackenzie look in Sam's direction because as soon as Sam stood he began to turn around. Mackenzie, knowing she needed to do something, bent down and picked up the vent she had used to cut her ropes off. She stood up quickly and shoved the vent into his face. He screamed in pain as Mackenzie kept applying pressure to his face with the vent pushing him backwards.
"You BITCH!" Martins yelled, "My eyes! I can't see! My eyes!"
"Go!" Mackenzie yelled to Sam
Sam was already in the process of running to the wall and climbing up boxes and chairs that were piled against it. She got to the top of them and pushed a tiny window open.
"Come on!" Sam yelled to Mackenzie, but if Mackenzie let go Martins would come right after her. He was screaming louder now and trying to grab her by swinging his arms in front of himself. Mackenzie couldn't bear to look at his face. The vent was causing about 6 diagonal lines across his face, which were beginning to bleed immensely.
"I can't!" Mackenzie yelled, "Go! Go find a phone! Save yourself!"
"No!" She yelled as she jumped down and ran over, "I'll take this, you go! People look up to you Mackenzie. You have to get out for Justin." she said
"No...I'm not leaving without you, Sam."
"Ok I have an idea. Keep pressing." Sam said
She pushed Mackenzie to the side and kicked Mr. Martins as hard as she could right between his legs. "Go now!" She yelled and they both let go of the vent and ran to window.
"That's when it sucks to be a guy." she said as Mackenzie climbed out.
"Get back here! You bitch!" Martins yelled in pain from the basement.
Once they were outside, they both began to run in the dark, cool night.
"We got to find a phone!" Mackenzie yelled as she ran but Sam stopped, "Sam... come on. He's going to be coming. Justin's not on his way...I made that up...I have no idea if anyone's coming. We have to get away."
"You...you go." Sam said out of breath, "I can't...my side...I can't..." and Sam fainted on the ground.
"Sam!" Mackenzie yelled as she picked her up off the ground.
"You...go...Kenzie...go...leave me here." Sam said weakly.
"Come on." She said dragging her over to the back of the shed, which was surrounded by trees. "Here, Sam, stay here. DON'T go to sleep! Stay here and be quiet. I'll go find help and come back for you. Think of anything you can to help you stay awake. Here take this it will keep you warm." She quickly pulled off the sweatshirt she was wearing.
"Kenz...you're gonna...freeze." she said weakly.
Mackenzie looked down at her bare skin, which already had goosebumps. She was only wearing a spaghetti strap top underneath but at this point she didn't care, Sam needed it more. "I'll be back, Sam. Remember what I said."
"Kenzie...I love you. You're my best friend." She said as Mackenzie ran away.
Mackenzie began to run as fast and as hard as she could in search of a neighbor, but where ever she went there was no one. Where had everyone gone?  After about what felt like 20 minutes of running she heard sirens coming to the house and she knew that it was only a matter of time before every thing was fine. But she didn't dare go back to the house. What if it was a trick? What if Martins was trying to trick her? She decided that the best thing she could do was hide. She ran onto the shore and hid behind large rocks. By the looks of the ocean she only had about an hour until the tide started to come in, then she would have to find a new hiding spot or she would drown. Mackenzie lay with her head against a rock and looked up at the stars. She tried desperately to think of things to keep her awake like she had told Sam to do but nothing was working. Sleep was over taking her and just as she was about to close her eyes she saw a shooting star. "I wish Justin was here." she said aloud before hearing footsteps near her.
"Where is she?" Justin asked as he ran out of the SUV that carried him to the house.
Police cars were surrounding the area as lights hand been set up Justin even saw a helicopter in the distance flying around.
"We aren't sure." The man said wearily.
"WHAT!" Justin said before moving on when he saw some one being pushed in a strecher. "Sam!" He said as he ran over to her
"Justin..." she said through all the tubes that were connected to her in one way or another.
"Where was she?" Justin asked the parametic
"Justin." Nick called
Justin turned around and saw Nick, Mr. Hope. JC, Joey, Lance, and Chris stading around.
"Justin , they found Jeff. He's dead...he was shot, but Sam says there was some one else. The parametics won't let us question her now because she is hurt but the police have told us that there is evidence that some one else was there. They've searched everywhere and they can't find her. They are still searching. Once the sun rises they'll have an even better chance of finding her."
"Chance? Chance of finding her? A CHANCE!! Hell no! I'm going to find her now. There will be no CHANCES!" he yelled as he grabbed a flashlight and started to run into the backyard.
"Justin!" JC yelled after him
"We are doing the best we can to find her." the police reasured Mr. Hope.

Mackenzie winced when she felt someone's hand on her back, "Justin?" she said but she soon found out she was wrong, "Get off of me!!" She yelled as she yumped up, "HELP! HELP ME!!" she screamed as she tried to run away.
"Get back here!" Martins yelled
"Did you hear that?" Justin said to JC as they searched for Mackenzie. Another yell sounded, "Thats her!" Pretty soon everyone was running in the direction of Mackenzies screams. They all arrived in time to see Mr. Martins grab Mackenzie by the neck.
"Mackenzie!" Justin yelled as he ran over
"Don't come any closer!" Martins warned, "I'll kill her!" he said as he pulled out the gun he had used to kill Jeff.
Everyone flinched as they saw his cut up face in the light. The police officers put down their own guns and waited for orders.
"Justin!" Mackenzie yelled to him
"Let her go, Jack." Mr. Hope said.
"Dad..." Mackenzie said getting weaker.
"Shh...Kenzie...it's going to be ok."
"Hah!" Martins let out an evil laugh, "How can you say everything will be ok when I'm standing here with a gun pointed toward her? You poeple are so stupid! I left clues...I hired help...after everything none of suspected any of us! I thought this would be an almost impossible task but yet you all made it so easy. Poor Jeff and Cara. Although they helped me they were equally stupid as you all are. Jeff...well you can see his stupidity got him dead and Cara she was to stupid to..."
"SHUT UP, Jack. You killed Jeff, now it's your turn." a high voice said from behind and just as everyone turned to see Cara standing with her own gun pointed at Jack, she fired it. Mr. Martins dropped the gun in his hand and fell to the ground.
"Mackenzie!" Justin yelled as he ran toward her and picked her up, "Mackenzie...oh my God...I love you...are you ok?"
"I'm fine, Justin."
"Within 15 minutes Mackenzie was in the ambulance with Justin on one side holding her hand and her father on the other.
"Everything is going to be fine now, Mackenzie." Justin said squeezing her hand tightly.
"I know." she said as she smiled up at him.
