| Chapter 8 Part 2 |
| "Is Mackenzie still playing basketball with Jonathan?" Lisa asked about 15 minutes later. "Justin will you go get them. She doesn't need to be playing babysitter today. Tell her she doesn't have to play." "Believe me, Kenz is probably having the time of her life." Jenna said while setting the table. "Yes, but I wish that we could see the court from the house. The only place for it was back behind those trees and the garden. Lynn said grabbing a few cups. Justin walked to the back of the yard thinking about everything that had just happened. Jonathan was never that open with people and it wasn't fair that he just clung to her instead of him. He was his brother. And no he was not jealous. Well, maybe just a little. He looked up when he heard an unfamiliar laughter and for a minute he thought someone else was playing basketball with them. He walked around behind the trees ready to find out who was with them, but nothing could have prepared him for the site he saw. On the other side of the basketball court he saw Kenzie and Jon laughing at something unknown to him. A smile crossed Justin's features. To be truthful he had never seen Kenzie openly laugh like she was. Maybe it was the way the sun was shining on her like she was an angel, maybe it was the way the light blue sundress fit her perfectly, or maybe it was because Justin had never seen anyone more beautiful than she was at that moment. Jenna was right, she was having the time of her life. Justin remained hidden for a few minutes while he watched them play. "Ok Lil J take a shot I'm coming." Kenzie said while walking slowly behind him. Jonathan took a shot and missed but Mackenzie quickly picked up the ball and passed it back to him, "That one didn't count! Try again." He picked up the ball, shot, and missed. Kenzie grabbed the ball again and passed it back to him, "Hey, did you shoot? I must have blinked! Try again one more time." "What happened to all those baskets you were making a few minutes ago?" Kenzie said when he didn't make the next shot. "I've got an idea. Turn around." he turned around and she walked in front of him with another ball in her hand. "When I say go I want you to close your eyes and shoot it backwards." "Are you crazy?" he asked Kenzie laughed when she saw his confused face. "No I'm not crazy. Sometimes you have to take chances, lil J." She walked around behind him and stood next to the basket. "Ready? One...Two...Three! Shoot!" Mackenzie quickly caught the ball he had thrown when it went nowhere near the net, but at the same time she tossed the other ball in the net. Just as Jonathan was turning around, the ball she had thrown went into the net. "I made it!" screamed Jon "Yes, you did! Congratulations!" Kenzie said picking him up and spinning him around. She put him down and he started to go over to the woods. "Ok, Justin. You can come out now." Jonathan said as he walked to where Justin had been standing." I saw you there when I turned around." he informed, "Did you see the shot I made?" "Yeah, it was awesome, Jon!" "I didn't realize we had an audience." Kenzie said picking up the other ball. "Yeah, well I was just... coming to check on you guys...ya know." Justin said blushing. "Come on, Justin. I wanna go get something to eat! I'm hungry plus I wanna tell daddy about my basket." Jonathan ran ahead as Kenzie went over to pick up her sandals that she had taken off. "I... I umm saw what you did." Justin said. He had no idea why all of a sudden he was stuttering when he was around her. "Yeah, that was something my dad used to do when I was little. I refused to talk to him for like a week when I found out that he had actually been the one making the shots." Kenzie smiled when she remembered the memory. "I didn't know you were so good with little kids." He said taking the sandals out of her hands. She looked at him unsure of where this conversation was going. "There are a lot of things you don't know about me." she said taking the sandals back, "Hey, Lil J! Wait up." Justin couldn't believe what had just happened as he watched her run up next to his younger brother. He was right, there were a lot of things he didn't know about her and he had the sudden urge to find out everything he could. Whether she wanted him too or not. |
