Chapter 6 Part 2
"Man whats your problem? Lance asked slamming his fists on the table.
My problem? Its not me, its her! Something about her isnt right, guys.
UhhhJustin shes Chris began
I dont trust her guys. Shes only out to do harm. Why did you even invite her here? Youre so impressed with her music, Jace, but it isnt even that good. Something about her just doesnt seem right. He repeated. What? He asked when all the guys were looking at him.
Thanks, Justin really. It isnt enough for you humiliate me on front of so many people you have to go beyond that. As an artist and as some one who has worked so hard to get where they are I thought you would be different. I dont care that you dont like me, but to tell me that my personal feelings arent good enough oror real enough is just bull. Im sorry guys. I really am. Youve been nothing but nice to me and I cant thank you enough. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a wad of money and threw it on the table. That should be enough for my dinner, thanks again. I hope to see you guys again. With that she turned and practically ran out of the restaurant.
"Kenzie! Mackenzie? Wait, come on!" JC yelled following behind her glancing back at Justin.
"Mackenzie?" JC said out of breath while running out of the restaurant in the rain. "Dammit where did she go?" he asked himself while looking onto the crowded sidewalk.
"JC, I need you to come back inside now. It's not safe for you to be out here. Come on." Nick said while tugging on JC's arm and pulling him back in the restaurant. "She probably took a cab or something."
JC looked around one more time before unwillingly walking back into the restaurant. "Kenzie!" He said when he saw her standing by the hostess both. "I thought you left!"
"Well, yeah that's my intention. I called a cab and it's on its way but there is no use in standing outside in the rain." She said tucking her hair behind her ears.
"Come on, don't leave." Lance said walking up from behind JC.
"You guys, I don't want to come between you and Justin. He doesn't want me here and the last thing I want to do is to make you mad at each other. I had fun while it lasted. Thanks guys. I think I see my cab." she said while trying to walk around them.
"Kenz, please stay." Chris said pouting his lips out at her.
"Is that supposed to make me want to stay?" she asked laughing at the face he was making.
"Ouch, baby. You go straight for the heart. She looks like a butterfly but she stings like a bee."
"Listen to him, Kenzie. Justin doesn't know what he's talking about. Besides I really want to talk to about some of your music. I really like it and I don't know when our schedules will allow us to get together again."
"Please!" they all said simultaneously while pouting their lips like Chris had done before.
"How can I refuse all those cute faces?" she asked sarcastically.
"Yay! She's staying, she's staying!" Chris said playfully while jumping up and down.
Once they were seated back at the table JC immediately starting asking her about her music. He was intrigued by how many songs she had written and the quality of each. All the guys were interested, including Justin. Music was his life and contrary to what he had said, he songs really were good, but he wouldn't let anyone else know he thought that.
"What about this one, Kenz?" Chris asked picking up a piece of paper.
"Chris, I'm not going to sit here and explain to you my inspiration for every song. Yes, every one of those songs are based on real experiences that have happened to me or people I know, but I don't want to relive every one of those moments. Just read the lyrics, you'll pretty much know what happened or what I was feeling." Kenzie said taking a bite of a French fry.
"Jeez, you have like 50 songs that aren't being used in here. Did you ever think of getting them copywrited so other artists can use them? These are really great." JC said fascinated by one of the songs.
"I never really thought about it. I guess I should, but it's hard to imagine someone singing a song that I wrote for myself. But then again it's useless to have them all sitting in a notebook getting no use out of them. Writing just comes easily to me so where ever I go I bring that notebook and when I'm bored I just open it up and let the words flow." She said while reaching across the table to pick up a piece of paper that ketchup had spilled on.
"What about this one? It has been starred and then crossed out and then starred again? It's a really good song. Couldn't decide if it should be on the album?" JC asked reading over the lyrics.
"That song is an exception, I don't know. I love that song, it's probably my favorite, but something about it isn't right about it. The words are there but it just doesn't sound right." She reached for the paper and took it away from JC before quickly folding it into the notebook. "Lets just move on from that song, like I have from the inspiration."
"Well, what was the inspiration?" Justin asked innocently. Everyone turned to look at Justin like he had grown five heads. "What?"
Kenzie nervously picked at another French fry, then looked into Justin's eyes questioningly. She took a deep breath and sighed. "Well, you guys are going to figure this out anyway so I better tell you."
She paused and when it didn't look like she was going to continue Chris spoke up, "Kenz, we can't read minds. You got to tell us if you want us to know."
When her faced grew sad and she continued to pick at the fry, Lance elbowed her playfully. "Come on, it can't be that bad."
She looked up into their curious faces and smiled at their attempt to cheer her up. "Well, guys that song is about my mother. She passed away four years ago when she was hit by a drunk driver."
JC was the first to digest the news and respond. "Oh, Kenzie I'm so sorry." He put his arm around her shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly.
"It's ok JC, really it is. That song was my way of moving on. I guess I created something good out of something bad. Right?"
"Oh definitely." Lance said
"I've got an idea!" JC said trying to get away of the subject.
"What?" Kenzie asked as he jumped up out of his seat.
"Can I take this for like 15 minutes? I'll be right back! Thanks!" JC took a bodyguard and ran out of the restaurant.
"Wow, when he gets an idea he really runs with it doesn't he?" Kenzie asked.
