Chapter 6 Part 3

The guys laughed and continued to talk until JC returned with papers in his hand.
"Kenz, this song is perfect!"
"Perfect for what?" she asked looking at the piece of paper he had handed her.
"Just trust me, ok? Justin, here." he said handing the paper to him, "sing that part, then Mackenzie sing that verse and we will join you down here."
"Sing it? Right here in the restaurant? Jace can't this wait?" Justin asked hesitantly.
"Yes, sing it and no it can't wait. You've got the sheet music and I'll start it off just so you get the flow of the song."
None of them could believe that JC wanted them to sing this now, but when he started to show them the tune of the song they all knew that he was serious.
Justin started to sing the first verse when JC stopped him. "No man, I know you better than that. SING IT, Justin."
Justin looked over at him and mumbled something no one could understand and then began to sing his heart out. Once they completed the song all the waiters, waitresses and people in the restaurant began clap and tell them how beautiful the song was. At first Mackenzie was a little embarrassed by belting the song out like she did but it felt good. Really good.
"That's a perfect duet, Kenzie!" Lance said
"Yeah, it is. All you guys need to do is to find someone sing it with you. You should ask Gloria Estefan since "Music Of My Heart" was such a big hit." She said looking over at the paper again.
"Are you kidding? No way girl! Youre singing with us!" Chris said laughing
"Are you sure you don't want someone...ya know...better?" she looked over at Justin bitterly, "Or more famous?"
They all noticed Mackenzie's direct jab at Justin but JC was the first to continue. "Nope, your perfect. And this song is your feelings, who better to sing it then you. That settles it. We will have to start recording soon so it can be on your album. I'll make a few calls."
"Well, if you're sure?" Kenzie asked
"We're sure" Chris, Lance, JC and Joey all said simultaneously.
Her cell phone rang and she quickly excused herself from the table once again
"Thanks a lot guys." Justin sighing running a hand through his hair, "You couldn't have just helped her with the song, Jace, you had to change it into a duet. Great just great. Now I have to spend even more time with her? How about we record separately."
"What is wrong with you, Justin? You never act this way and just because of what Ton-" Jc paused and rephrased his sentence, "There is no reason why you're treating her this way. She didn't do anything to deserve all this shit you've been giving her."
"Like I said before, I don't trust her and it has nothing to do with...with...my past. She's probably just going to ride with our fame like everyone else." Justin said in defeat.
"Umm, hey guys. That was my manager. He's pretty pissed at me right now so I've got to go." she paused and sniffled. "It was nice meeting you all. Give me a call JC about the song I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks." She reached over to grab her notebook.
"Why? Why is he pissed?" Joey asked before any of the other guys could
"I don't know. He's always like this. My performance probably wasn't good enough for him. But he's right, it wasn't very good. I'll see you guys later."
"Wait, Mackenzie?" Justin called, he waited until she turned to face him. "Your performance was perfect." Everyone looked at Justin in shock when the words came out of him so softly. Justin quickly realized what he had said and mentally cursed himself.
Mackenzie smiled and looked over at Justin, "Thanks, Justin. That means a lot to me."
"Yeah well, it was perfect in a one hit wonder kind of way." he added.
"Justin!" Lance yelled.
"What I'm just speaking the truth." he said in a challenging way.
"You know, for the first time, Justin I thought you were actually going to be nice, but I guess that just proves me wrong. I'll have to give Jenna her $10."
"$10 for what?" he asked
"We made a bet. She said that you were going to be the only jackass in the group. She was right." She looked over at Justin's shocked face and smiled. "Goodnight guys. I'll talk to you later."
"Damn! She got you, J." Joey said laughing.
"Whatever." Justin said getting up to leave.
Justin couldn't believe that she actually had enough guts to say that to him, but what he really couldn't believe was that he actually let himself slip when he said that her performance was perfect. The worst part was that it really was perfect and he was beginning to see that maybe she wasn't as bad as he had previously made her out to be.
