| "I can't believe I'm going to this release party, Jenn." Kenzie said examining herself in the mirror. "I shouldn't be, I mean...I don't know...." "You should be going, Kenz, so don't even talk like that. The guys would have a miserable time with out you and you know it. Now lets go. Forget about what happened today. Like the cops said, it was probably just some sick-o fan doing it. As sick as this may sound things like this are going to happen now that you are in the industry, so you've got to move on and live your life to the fullest. Now lets get going, I promised the guys we'd be there by 7:30 and it's already 8." she said pulling Kenzie out the door. "Jeez, Jenna, I wasn't asking for the lecture!" Kenzie said laughing as she met Jeremy in the hallway. "Well I'm glad to see that your mood has changed." Jeremy said leading them down the hall. "Yeah, well I've got to move on and live my life to the fullest!" Kenzie said imitating what Jenna had said. Truth be known, Mackenzie's mood had changed very little, she was just getting used to hiding her feelings. "Where is she!" Justin asked over the loud music at the party. "She'll be here soon, J." Lance yelled over to him, "Now lets party!" he started to walk away when he saw that Justin wasn't coming. "J, come on man. She'll be here." "What if she decided not to come...it's already 8:15. What if...what if who ever was in her house found her and..." "Justin!" Lance yelled at his friend, "Don't even think like that, you know how women are, they take forever to get ready and with all the press around here and the traffic, I'm sure that they'll be here any minute." Justin was just about to go outside and look for her when some one tapped him on the shoulder. "Justin?" the young women asked. Justin turned around and was surprised at who he saw. "Britney! I thought you couldn't make it!" "Nope, I rearranged some things so I could make it. This is a great party, you guys deserve all of it." She said before she hugged him. �How are you?" she asked "I'm good...I've been so busy lately." "I know what you mean. Hey, how's Kenzie?" she asked concerned about what she had heard earlier that day. "She's doing ok, she's coming along great. She's had a tough start in the business but everything is going pretty good." Justin said as Britney smiled. "What?" he questioned as he took a sip from the cup he was holding. "Have you two...ya know...are you guys together yet?" she asked smiling. Justin practically choked on the soda he was drinking. "Huh?" was the only thing he could say. "Kenzie and I aren't...we could never...no...nah..." Britney smiled as she looked at Justin's stuttering form. She could tell that Justin had a thing for Kenzie ever since he started talking about her, she only hoped Kenzie felt the same. Justin was about to say something else when he saw the back of Kenzie as she entered from the front of the crowed club. "I've...uhh...got to go...there's some people...you know how it is...I'll talk to you later." Britney watched as he walked away and smiled knowingly when she saw Justin walk right over to Mackenzie. |
| "Kenz!" Justin yelled as he walked over toward her. She turned around to face him and his breath was caught in his throat. The first thought that floated through his mind was 'Wow' but that thought was quickly pushed away as he thought of something to say. She wore a black leather halter-top with hot pink flares. Her straight hair was down with glitter glistening as she moved her head. Her outfit was simple, but she looked beautiful. "Hh..hey Mackenzie. I was worried that you weren't going to make it." Justin said unconsciously taking her hand into his. "Are you kidding? I couldn't miss this!" She said hugging him, "You guys deserve this all! Tomorrow I'm predicting at least 1 million sold." "1 million by tomorrow night? I think that�s a little bit out there. I'd be happy if a hundred people bought the album, much less a million." Joey and Chris came over to them and looked down at Justin's hand when they noticed his hand was holding Kenzie's. Justin's eyes followed Joey's stare and quickly let go of her hand, hoping he wouldn't have noticed. "Hey girl!" Joey said hugging her. "Yo Zie Zie!" Chris called to her. "Hey guys. Hey Kenzie, it's nice to meet you." Britney said as she walked over to join the group. "Hey guys. It's very nice to meet you too,� she said laughing and Chris and Joey's antics, "This is a great party." "We never have bad ones! I'll be saving a dance for you later, Kenzie!" Joey said as he winked at her and walked away. "Hey Justin, will you come with me for a minute, I...uhh...I need to ask you something." Chris said pulling Justin away, "Lata Zie" Kenzie laughed at the new nickname Chris had given her. "So how are you holding up?" Britney asked her as Chris and Justin walked away. "I'm doing ok...how did you know?" Kenzie questioned. "Everyone knows, well everyone here knows. It's ok though, everyone is going to protect you no matter what." Britney said smiling. "Enough about that, what is it between you and Justin?" she asked excitedly. "Nothing is between us, we are just friends." Kenzie said casually. That was the answer Britney was hoping she wouldn't hear. She knew there was more going on and it frustrated her that both of them were denying their feelings. "So you're trying to tell me that every time you see him, your heart doesn't skip a beat? Every time you hear him sing you don't wish that he was singing to you? And every time he smiles-" "Ok, ok maybe I do have a slight thing for him, but only a little thing. It's just a stupid crush.� she said blushing. "Why don't you tell him?" Britney asked "Because I know he doesn't feel the same way," Britney gave her an unbelieving look, "The last time.... well I know he doesn�t because when I.... because when I..." "When you kissed him he pulled away...right?" Britney said finishing her sentence. "Yeah, how did you know?" "Me? Justin tells me everything and believe me you really got him going after that kiss." she paused when she saw Mackenzie sigh and pulled her into the restroom making sure no one was in it, "Look, Kenz, he scared because some bitch screwed him over in the past, not literally of course but you know what I mean, he's so scared that he's afraid to let his feelings for you show because he's worried that you'll turn out to be another Cara. He's trying so hard to let you in and so far he's made great progress from when he first met you. Right?" she saw Mackenzie smile and nod and then continued, "His heart tells him one thing, but his head is telling him another and slowly but surely he's letting his heart tell him what to do. "Thanks Brit." Mackenzie said hugging her before the two walked out of the bathroom. "There you are I've been looking all over for you!" Justin said as he saw her. Britney smiled knowingly before walking over to where Joey, JC, and Lance were standing watching the pair.
