| Chapter 22 |
| Two weeks later things were getting much better to a degree. The media had found out about Mackenzie switching management but everyone was very supportive at her decision. Although Mackenzie wished she could stay with the guys in New York, she had shows to do during the past two weeks. It was her first day back and tonight she was going to the release party for Nsync's newest album, No Strings Attached, but first she had to stop back at her apartment. "I can't wait to be home!" Mackenzie said excitedly while waiting in the elevator with Jenna and Jeremy. "Me either!" Jenna started, "It's been like a month since we've been here, yet we are always in New York." The elevator doors opened and Mackenzie and Jenna ran out to their door with Jeremy stumbling behind them carrying all their bags. He almost made it to the door when the suitcases in Jeremy's arm crashed onto the floor. "Jeremy!" Jenna yelled while laughing, "here, let me help you." she said shaking her head while Kenzie fidgeted through her purse looking for her key. "Got it!" she said as she saw Jenna picking up clothes that had fallen on the floor. Kenzie hurriedly put the key into the lock and opened the door not knowing that what was inside was going to change her life. Mackenzie stood in shock as she looked around the disheveled apartment. "Oh, My, God." was her only reaction. She ran a hand through her hair as she slid down the wall in disbelief. "Kenzie! What's wrong?" Jenna said when she saw her slide down the wall. But Kenzie couldn't move. She cupped her hand around her moth and pointed with a shaking finger. "Some...someone was here." she said as tears fell down her cheeks. Jenna ran over to her and almost screamed at the site of what was their home. "Jeremy!" she screamed, but he had already seen the damage and was on the phone with the police. "Where's Justin?" Kenzie screamed as Jenna dialed his number. "Justin, we're at the apartment, you have to come quick...someone got in here...I don't know." Mackenzie could hear Justin's frantic voice on the other end of the line and started walking around the apartment. Clothes had been thrown on the floor along with many other possessions. All her pictures had been turned down or ripped in half, but that wasn't the worst part. Like some sort of sick wallpaper, on every wall the word, "Betray" and the phrase, "I warned you." was written on a plaque that Jive had given her. Kenzie didn't know what to do or think but she did know that her world was spinning around her and she couldn't stop it. All she knew was that she needed Justin and she needed him soon. He always made her feel safe and this time would be no exception. A few minutes later the apartment building had been turned into a mad house. And because it was considered unsafe the guys weren't allowed inside and had to wait until Kenzie arrived at their hotel. "Damnit Nick! I can't wait any longer! I swear if she doesn't get here in 5 minutes I'm breaking all security and going to get her!" Justin yelled as he and his 4 friends paced around the room. "J, cool it. When she gets here, she's going to need you, not your temper. We are all worried." Nick said calmly as his cell phone rang. "Alright guys, she's here. J, she'll be here in a minute it and we'll leave you two alone." "Thanks guys." Justin said as they all left him along in the room. A few minutes later there was a knock on his door and Justin answered it knowingly, but nothing could have prepared him for the look in her eyes. She reached over and hugged him to a point where she wished she could loose herself in that hug. "It will be ok, Kenz." Justin said rubbing her back. "I know." she sniffled, "It was horrible!" she cried as she sat down on one of the beds. Justin pulled her into another hug and whispered against her hair. "We are going to find out who did this and they won't do it again." he stroked her hair with his free hand, "I promise." he pulled away and started dialing numbers on his cell phone. "What are you doing?" Mackenzie asked composing herself. "I'm canceling the party tonight." Justin said "What!! No you can't do that, Justin! Don't let something as stupid as this ruin your night. You can't. Please don't." Mackenzie pleaded. "Kenz, as much as I don't want to say this, this isn't stupid it's serious and I " Justin began. "No, I won't let you do that. So many people are going; don't cancel it because of me. Just forget about me, I'm not going to go." "Now that is something I can't do." Justin said with a slight smile on his face. "I could never forget about you. Well, I mean.... you know...you have to come. I'm not having it with out you." Justin said embarrassed. "If you promise to go, I'll keep it on. You can forget about what happened. Please...." Justin persuaded. "Fine." She said hugging him, "You always make me feel better, but if I'm going to go tonight I have to get ready!" she smiled and laughed as she made her way to the door. She wasn't lying to any extent when she said he made her feel better because she went from sobbing to beaming in the amount of 5 minutes and he was the only person that could make her feel that way. That was something that she had never felt in her life and although she was nervous she couldn't wait to explore the feelings. |
