Undying Devotion Chapter 12
Sliding to a stop in front of Erika's house, JC quickly turned off the jeep, and ran up the steps to her porch. He didn't knock, just flung the door open and ran inside. He couldn't take anymore.
"Erika?" He called, and waited.
He heard no answer, but after a moment, could make out muffled sobs from the kitchen. Right away, he ran in, where he found her slumped on the floor, her knees pulled up tightly to her chest, sobbing violently.
He dove down next toher, "Baby what's wrong?" he asked sweetly.
She took a few seconds, trying to stop her tears, so she could talk.
"I got the mail, and someone sent me a letter, and it said it was from my parents. Is that supposed to be funny?" she choked out.
"WHAT?" he asked angrily. "I tore up the envelope, but the letter's up there." she told him, nodding toward the table.
"What does it say?" JC inquired curiously.
"I didn't read it." she said, sniffing.
JC stood up, and lifted the letter from the tabletop, unfolding it carefully. The date had been scrawled at the top, and he turned quickly toward his girlfriend, "This was sent over 3 weeks ago."
He read on, and realized it WAS from Bill and Cindy. "Babe, I think it IS from them." he
explained gently, placing the letter in her outstretched hand.
He then sat down next to her, and nuzzled his head in the groove between her neck and shoulder, waiting for her to read it.
"Erika, We're sorry to have to leave you alone, baby. But we know you're responsible enough to be on your own. We hope you have a wonderful time while we're gone, because we are. But we do miss you tons, sweetie, and don't worry, you know we're always thinking of you, and you're never really alone. JC is always there for you, and loves you more than anything. So take good care of him while we're gone. We'll see you soon.
Love,
Mom and dad"
Erika couldn't believe what she was reading. Her mom and dad had been thinking of her while they were gone, and had taken the time to write her. Suddenly she felt as though she'd been able to say goodbye, and a weight seemed to lift from her shoulders. She'd
never experienced such a wonderful feeling of closure, and the tears poured freely down her face. But for the first time in what felt like an eternity, they were tears of happiness.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" JC asked gently, kissing her neck softly."
I've never felt better." she answered, pulling him close, and hugging him. As she pulled away, she looked into his eyes, and saw that they were filled with tears.
