Undying Devotion Chapter 10

Walking through the front door, JC was greeted by his entire family looking at him worriedly. He had just dropped Erika off at home."

What?" he asked sighing, as he plopped down heavily on the couch.
"Is she okay? Heather told us how upset she got." Roy answered.

JC became irritated, and growled, "Yeah, well Heather should know not to say things like that, especially around Erika. Of course she'd get upset!"

Heather's eyes filled with tears, and she stood up to walk to her room. Just before she left, she turned around, and said to her brother, "JC, I said I was sorry, and I already feel bad enough, you don't have to act like such a jerk!"

A few quiet moments later, Karen looked at him, disappointed, "You know, she DOES feel very bad, she just didn't think. You didn't need to be so mean to your sister."

He nodded, and went to her room to talk to her. As JC stepped up to her bedroom door, he knocked softly, and waited for her to tell him he could come in. She was only a few years younger, and he loved her to death, they'd always been close. He was very protective of her, and now HE was the one who'd made her cry. "Who is it?" he heard her choke out.

He hesitated, then replied, "JC."
After a few seconds, she shouted, "What do you want?"

Finally, JC just walked in, and she glared angrily at him. "I didn't say you could come in."
He ignored her, and sat down next to her on her bed. "Heather, I didn't mean to yell at you, I'm just really stressed out lately, sorry."
She looked at him, wiping the tears from her eyes, and said "It's alright, I mostly got upset, because I feel pretty bad. Why are you so stressed?"
JC breathed deeply, and started to explain. "You saw how Erika was today right? I mean even before she got upset. Didn't she seem different to you?"
Heather looked down, and thought for a moment. "Yeah, she did. She's usually so happy, and making everybody laugh. But today, she was really quiet. But you can't blame her, can you? I would be pretty upset if mom and dad died."
"I know Heather," JC started, "But people usually at least want to talk, it helps. And with time, they start to act like themselves again. Nothing's getting better for her. Actually, she seems worse every day. She'll never let me talk, or tell me how she feels, and I want to help. I don't get it. I'm scared she doesn't love me anymore, or feels differently. And I don't want to lose her." JC felt a weight lift from his heart, as he let out everything he'd been feeling, at last. A tear slid down his cheek, and Heather hugged him.

"I had no idea it was that bad!" she said, "But don't worry, JC, she's just having a hard time with this. Just stick with her, she'll come around. She DEFINITELY still loves you. You guys were made for each other, so don't worry."
