I can see that you've been cryin'
You can't hide it with a lie
What's the use in you denyin'
That what you have is wrong
I heard him promise you forever
But forever's come and gone
Baby he would say whatever
It takes to keep you blind
To the truth between the lines

Lynn heard a car pull down the road, tires spinning against the wet pavement. She stood sobbing at the large window in her living room and watched the rainfall into large puddles. She reached up and rubbed her cheek where Ethan, her ?boyfriend? had hit her during an argument.
She rolled her pants up and walked over to the front door opening it to walk out. She stood on the rain letting the drops trickle down her low cut top into her bra and down the crease of her chest. She threw her head back and let the tears mix with the water drops.
*Honk, Honk*
Lynn looked up and saw a black Mercedes pull into the driveway with its headlights on. Lynn rushed up onto the small porch and turned her back to the person now running up to met her. She tried drying her red, swollen eyes, which had been crying for the last 2 hours.
?Hey,? A mans voice said. ?What, not happy to see me? Thanks a lot, Lynn.?
He reached for her and put his hands on her shoulders and spun her around. He could tell that she had been crying. He had seen this face a million times before.
?What happened now,? The man said. ?Where did Ethan go this time? I know you have been crying.?
?To the store,? Lynn answered. ?I have not been crying. I have been outside in the rain. I was out here when you pulled in, remember??
?I can see that you have been crying again,? The man said.
?Justin, you just don?t know,? Lynn said to her best friend, Justin Timberlake. ?Nothing happened.?
?Why are you trying to deny that he hit you,? Justin asked trying to touch the red mark on Lynn?s soft cheek. ?I?ve told this a million times, this relationship is wrong. He beats you. How and why do you stay??
?He told me he loved me,? Lynn said. ?He doesn?t lie.?
Justin looked at her for a minute and turned back into the rain that started coming down harder and walked back to his car.
?I hear him promise you forever, Lynn,? Justin said. Water dripped from his short brown curls onto his forehead. ?Well that was a long time ago. Don?t you see forever has come and gone? Lynn, Ethan would say whatever it would take to keep you blind to everything. He tells you he loves you but he doesn?t.?

Oh I will love you more than that
I won't say the words
Then take them back
Don't give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say
I will love you more than that

Justin slammed the door shut behind him and quickly untied his shoes only to kick them off and leave a mud smudge on the wall by the door. He threw off his shirt and left it limp on the floor by the door and went straight to the bathroom to get a towel to dry his hair. He looked into the mirror only to find himself looking at his face and wanting to tear it off. He needed Lynn to understand what he was feeling, but he couldn?t. Such feelings ran through him and he knew it wasn?t hate or resentment, but love. He walked into his room and took out his diary and began to write his feelings.

?Dear Diary,
The more I think of Lynn, the more I want to smile on the outside, but cry on the inside. I?m scared to death for her life all because she can?t see that Ethan is in it for sex and her money. He drinks and drinks until he doesn?t even know how to breathe and then he goes home and rapes her. I followed him once and listened outside her window. I feel so guilty to this day about not trying to stop him, but he had a gun and I knew he would kill one of us. She hides it well. When he is sober, he can be the best guy in the world next to me, I guess. She won?t leave Ethan, either. She says it?s because she loves him, but she is afraid of being alone and afraid of not finding somebody else. He?s nothing to her. I wish I could just tell her how much I love her and then maybe everything would be okay!
