| Section 2.0 - Pre-Election Period 2.1 All candidates for any SGA sponsored election, nomination, or appointment must meet all qualifications set forth in the SGA Constitution and its By-laws, and must abide by all University policies. Candidates must be in good standing with the University and must have a 2.0 GPA the semester prior to the election and a 2.0 cumulative GPA. 2.1.1 President and Vice-President of the SGA must be a member of the Northwestern State University Student Body for one year, have completed 45 course hours, and serve on the SGA elected office for two consecutive semesters. He or she must have been present for three-fourths of the meetings in those semesters. A member of Student Government is eligible to run for President or Vice-President if he/she is serving their second consecutive semester in an elected SGA office and meet all other requirements. The President of the Student Government Association will not hold office for two consecutive terms. 2.1.2 Treasurer of the SGA must be a member of the Northwestern State University Student Body for one year, have completed 45 course hours, be serving his/her second consecutive semester in an elected SGA office, and have completed two accounting courses with a grade of C or better. 2.1.3 Twenty Senators-at-Large who must meet all requirements mentioned in 2.1. 2.1.4 Fifteen Class Senators, three from each class including three Graduate Seniors, who must meet all requirements mentioned in 2.1. 2.1.5 All honor court members must be full-time, female students at Northwestern State University. A woman cannot serve on a court of which she has previously been Queen. Court members must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be in good standing with the University. 2.1.6 Mr. and Ms. NSU must be full-time male and female students at Northwestern State University, must be at least first semester seniors, and must show leadership, scholarship, service at school, and personality. Candidates for these positions must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be in good standing with the University. 2.1.7 All candidates for the aforementioned positions must attend a mandatory meeting to learn the rules of the elections prior to the election that they are involved in, taking place. If, for any reason, a candidate is unable to attend this meeting, they are still responsible for all rules pertaining to them. 2.2 Filings. 2.2.1 All persons desiring to be a candidate for any Student Government office must file an intent-to-run form available in the SGA office. The deadline for intent-to-run forms will be set by the Election Committee. 2.2.2 All persons filling out intent-to-run forms must pay a $10.00 filing fee which is non- refundable. 2.2.3 Any candidate wishing to withdraw from an election may do so by turning in a written request, to the Vice President of Student Affairs and the SGA Vice-President, four class days prior to the election. 2.2.4 The Election committee may reopen filings for an office if no one files or if all persons filing are ineligible. Filings will be reopened for two days. 2.2.5 If, after filings have been reopened, no one meets the before mentioned requirements, those students closest to fulfilling those requirements shall run. 2.2.6 Campaigning will begin the day filings open. 2.3 Nominations for Mr. and Mrs. NSU and Honor Courts. 2.3.1 Dorm nomination procedures. All dorm floors will nominate three women for honor courts, and one male and one female for Mr. and Mrs. NSU. The Election committee will distribute nomination forms to all dorms. A Resident Assistant will hold nomination meetings on his or her floor only if fifty percent of the residents of that floor are present. The Resident Assistant and the Housing Director must sign and date the nomination form and return it to the place designated by the Election committee deadline. A receipt shall be given to the individual turning in the form. 2.3.2 Chartered Organizations Nomination Procedures All chartered organizations will nominate three women for honor courts, and one male and female for Mr. and Mrs. NSU. Fifty percent of the members must be present. The Election Committee will distribute all nomination forms to the chartered organizations. The president of the organization will sign and date the nomination form and return it to the place designated by the Election Committee before the deadline. A receipt shall be given to the individual turning in the form. 2.3.3. Counting nomination forms Honor courts- all women receiving three nominations or more will be placed on the ballot. Mr. and Mrs. NSU- all men and women receiving four nominations or more will be placed on the ballot. CONTUNUED... |
