2. Sleeve for LED

Fold tape in half Take about a 2" strip of the electrical tape and fold it in half (sticky-side to sticky-side). You will eventually trim it down to the correct size (next step).

LED recessed in "sleeve" Wrap the tape around the LED like a sheath or sleeve. Extend the edge of the tape 1/8" to 1/4" past the face of the LED so the LED is recessed in the sleeve. Trim the tape sleeve as necessary and secure it in place with another small strip of tape. The LED recessed in this "sheath" of sorts will shine a beam of light in a small, concentrated area.

Placement of coat hanger & LED wires
Cut a 6" to 7" length of coat hanger wire (or 12-gauge wire) and about 12" to 18" of extension wire (more or less, depending on where you're going to mount it). Attach the extension wires to the LED wires. Be sure to insulate the stripped parts of the wire so they don't touch each other.

Wrap the LED wire and hanger wire with electrical tape. (If you have shrink wrap, that might be even better.) Leave about an inch of hanger wire sticking out at the end. Make a loop with this remaining end of hanger wire to fit around the mirror mounting bolt. If you want to, you can spray on a couple of coats of Plasti-Coat tool dip to seal the tape. The tool dip comes in two formulations, dip and spray. Most hardware stores should have it and they come in a variety of colors.

Cockpit view of wrapped LED wire You now have a flexible snake to position & point the LED anywhere you want.
