The NSCC Seamanship Training is hosted by ASSAULT
CRAFT UNIT FIVE at MCB located at Marine Corps Base
Camp Pendleton, which is located just outside of
Oceanside, CA.

This is a very unique training opportunity that allows the
cadets to work closely with the Navy's Landing Craft Air
Cushions (LCACs).

The cadets are involved in almost all major areas of the
ACU-5.  They perform daily maintenance on the crafts,
participate on "flights" aboard the LCACs, and work hand
in hand with the active duty members of ACU-5.  The
cadets have assisted in major offload operations for Naval
vessels and Marine Corps units.

Cadets stayed in the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) of
the unit, which for most cadets, is quite a difference from
most other Sea Cadet trainings.  During the work day, the
cadets enjoy dining "On Cushion Cove", the ACU-5 Galley,
which serves excellent food that the cadets really enjoy.

Each day began at 0530 with reveille, followed by
transportation via bus to the unit.  For some cadets, this is
their first experience of a full work day, commencing at
0700 and ending at 1600.  Even after the work day is done,
cadets continue their training by working to complete
their Personal Qualification Standards (PQS) which is
similar to the PQS that the active duty members of ACU-5
must complete.  Cadets participating in the Advanced
Training complete the PQS as well as learn how to prepare
a mission brief.  On the final work day for cadets, the
advanced cadets give their mission brief to several Chiefs
and Officers who evaluate their presentation.  After
"homework" is completed, the cadets are able to enjoy
free time.  They are able to enjoy the amenities provided
by the ACU-5 BEQ, including basketball and tennis courts,
lounges equipped with TVs and VCRs, and even a
state-of-the-art mini-theatre with DVD player, theatre
seating, wide screen projection system, and surround
sound.  On the weekend, cadets enjoy the on-base movie
theatre, bowling alley, base Exchange, and beach.
