Programs
Greetings HU NSBE Visitors,

What great success this chapter has accomplished in the first semester of rebuilding.  Now with over 130 members and growing, the HU NSBE chapter is fullfilling the vision of the chapter along with the NSBE mission.  This chapter has a lot to offer to all persons who believe in the goals and principles of NSBE.  Our new programs such as the NSBE point system, freshman mentoring program, and Black Engineers Round Table discussions have been a hit success with the chapter this year. For more information about these programs, visit the Programs link.
Our members have done a great job with the participation level with the HU NSBE chapter this semester as well.  With the help of the point system, which gives members a chance to earn financial support to the NSBE National Convention, our NSBE members are doing everything they can to be a part of the NSBE experience. I have to say that I am very proud of the class of 2006 for supporting this organization, by attending most of the meetings and participation in the sub committees.  You are all the leaders of tomorrow, and stay encouraged!!
There's more in store for NSBE as we approach our the semester, Spring 2003.  With NSBE week 2003 on the way, we hope to spread the word and increase the awareness about NSBE to the rest of the Howard community.  In trying to complete this goal, we will have a new campus relations committee to diligently work hard in trying to integrate NSBE with the activities and events of other Howard University student organizations.  Everyone is excited to get to the National Convention in Anaheim, CA, March 2003, and HU NSBE will make sure to be a part of all of the festivities.  This chapter will not miss a beat and will continue to become one of the most renowned student organizations on the campus of Howard University.

Survival Tips for Finals
1) Put in at least 3 days study time for each final.  Dont stay up until the day before the final trying to cram everything.  You'll appreciate yourself and the extra sleep afterwards.  Take your time and try your best.  Even if you dont get that A, you will still obtain excellence knowing that you've tried your best.

2) Dont stress and think about all of the finals that you have at once, even if you have two on one day.  Take everything a day at a time or else you will break down!!  You will get through it, it's not the end of the world and you will still be successful and make lots of money upon graduation!!

3) Don't do "straight studying" throughout the week.  Give your brain a rest and do something of leisure.  Go see a movie, see a play, or go SHOPPING!

4) Keep a positive attitude..you will make it through this tough time and will be home with your family eating home cooked meals as soon as you know it!!
Raiquel's 10 Tips for Success
I hope that some of this advice will help and apply to you!
1) Apply for at least one NSBE Scholarship.  It can't get any easier..It's online!!

2)  After an interview, send a thank you email to the interviewer.  Your chances in a job offer will increase.

3) Take on a leadership position.  You will learn a lot, become a better person, and the recruiters will love you!  If you can't find one, please let me know.

4)  Why struggle and reinvent the wheel when you can utilize your resources.  There are always people who have taken the classes you are taking now.

5)  Always ask questions because the worst someone can say is NO!
6) Prayer does work, try it out and see.  How do you think I was able to survive the semester?

7) As you learn new material, do homework to reinforce your knowledge.  Don't wait until test time to cram because it's not the best way to go.

8)
Do something different with yourself.  Go to the Tyson's Corner Mall instead of same ol' Pentagon City.

9) Relax your mind and do something creative.  Write a poem or an article for our the HU NSBE Chapter Newsletter.
You'll get points!!

10)  Your attitude is perceived by others.  Smile :)  and speak to people, even if you don't want to.  That can brighten up someone's day and your's as well.
