About Us
Stuttering is a communication disorder involving disruptions or "disfluencies" in a person's speech. For example, a child may have repetitions l-l-l-like this, or the child may hold out a sssssssound, like this. Many children who stutter may also experience "blocks" where no sound comes out at all. Physical tension and struggle may accompany the stuttering, as well as fear, embarrassment, or shame. Some children may even attempt to "hide" the stuttering by avoiding certain situations or sounds.
