The New England Region has only one National Park;
Acadia National
Park in Maine
but there are numerous National Park Service Units
in the Region. New England is the region first settled by the
earliest colonlists. The area is famous for some of the early Americans
who are remembered in history as Patriots. The idea of National
Parks and preserving uniquie landscapes came as a result of Corps
of Discovery, also known as the Lewis and Clark Expidition. Thomas
Jefferson wanted to see exactly what the United States owned following
the Lousiana Purchase.
