Media and vampirism

Newly released movies such as Anne Rice's "Queen of the damned" and "Blade II" attract the young and old to the same regurgitated fictional "vampire" filth. You've see more and more fictional vampiric films. novels and T.V. shows in the lime light recently, which puts the real vampires on the stand by the ever- judging society. Although most snub the idea of the real vampire - the non flying, mortal, realistic vampire - but are drawn to the mythical eternal life giving sexual creature that the media distorted from the truth. Such yellow journalism drawls both the cynical hating mundane and the mythical vampire seeker. While the cynical mundane turns into the more often common "vampire slayer", the seeker becomes obsessed with the fiction.

You've seen them lurking on every forum and vampire resource chat, with inane questions and comments ranging from "I'm looking for a sire to make me into one of the children of the night" to "I was turned ten years ago by my dark prince." All we've come into contact with are considered a laughing stock of the entire community, although most vampires try to reeducate those who are wrongfully informed about the true vampire.

Now, the "vampire slayer" or more commonly known as "one who has watched too much Buffy the vampire slayer", is mostly not considered a threat to the vampire community. Although most are just confused, misinformed people who would run if they met a vampire face to face, a few are actually considered dangerous. **[Note: These violent slayers need mental help, and are a real threat. There have been a few reports of 'slayers' killing harmless vampires, so take every vampire slayer seriously. Remember - if they do threaten you, report them. Harassment is a crime.]**

With vampirism now in the lime light, you may begin to wonder if the "newly awakened" vampires are really what they claim to be. Most were originally drawn to vampirism by vampire movies and books, and attracted by all the wrong, false reasons. I presume if we didn't have such fictional vampiric views in the media, there wouldn't be half as many vampires as we have collected recently. It's sad to see so many mundanes trying to live out the harsh vampiric lifestyle and using the vampire name as their own description for their own differences. It's too bad we cannot rightfully take back our name and wipe it clean, I believe it's out of our hands.
