It happens to every vampire. Around fifteen to twenty years of age, the latent vampire (meaning someone who is already a vampire, but the vampire tendence has yet to show) "awakens" and many mental and physical changes will occur on their body. It may take many years for them to fully awaken, but during this strange and confusing time, one begins to realise what and who they really are. Before you take note of everything, the changes must occur. Such things as increased sensitivity to light/sound/emotions, drawing to night and darkness, the first signs of thirst, changing to a more nocturnal lifestyle and change of sleeping patterns. While these changes aren't dangerous, they are rather annoying in the begining(with the exception of the sensitivity to light/sound/emotions, they'll always be annoying). Most find it hard to avoid the sun with a daytime lifestyle, but some how they manage with only burns(some burn easy) and headaches. Changing your lifestyle isn't easy, and some cannot do so with a daytime job or school. So most remain listless through out the day, until night arrives..where they remain restless and unable to sleep. Being sensitive to sounds and emotions isn't grand either. The simplist whisper the mundane wouldn't be able to hear, is now within earshot for you. You'll start to pick up on other's emotions(expessially if Psi) and feel what they feel. A stranger could be crying, and although you don't know him, you may pick up on his emotional state and may feel deeply saddened. No, being a vampire isn't a walk in the park. You'll begin to feel more withdrawn than usual, seeming only to relate to those who are (or were) going through what you're going through. Depression may set in after you begin to realise what you truly are. A vampire. One who the mundane will never understand, even if they studied for twenty lifetimes. No one knows what a vampire goes through, on a personal level. The hardships, depressions, the solitude, the pains and sicknesses, the maddening thirst, and the day to day struggle. Sure, there are a few advanges to becoming a vampire. Such as a better immune system, possibly greater strength or a faster speed, possibly living a few years longer than that of normality, but the good can't hold a candle to the bad. I say to you, newly awakening vampire - good luck with the self realization. I hope you don't loose your way on to becoming a self concious vampire. Although you are in for a confusing and troubling time, there is no greater bliss than realising the truth. ----Author: Nocticulax | ||
