Welcome to my "Woody" Banjo page.

<>
This banjo is made entirely from all hard maple.  The head is even made of solid hard maple. Usually the head is made from a pliable material such as plastic or stretched hide, as in the days of old, or similar material used in drum heads.  Ichose to make this one unique.    The body and head are made out of 2 pieces of hard maple 2" x 12", glued together to make a solid block 4" x 12".  I then cut the diameter inside and out, using a rotary table on a vertical mill, leaving the top, or the head about 1/4" thick.
This gives the banjo a mellow soft sound.

When playing this in a crowd, you would need to amplify this one to be heard.  I made it this way so that I could play this at work, or home and not "bother" other people around me with my tunes.  This also makes the banjo quite durable and portable.  I have since decided that the head could probably be thinner, and still play or sound OK.

Yeah, I know, some of you probably think I've got too much time on my hands. But hey, it's my time, and my hands.  It's sorta like a hobby.  As you probably know, I enjoy collecting old music records, 78's and LP's etc.  I also enjoy playing the banjo and making them too.  I don't really save that much money in making them, but I earn or achieve much more satisfaction in playing something that I have created.
