here's a couple photos of the '91 jimmy.i'll be posting step by step photos of the whole process from cutting rusted panels off to the final paint just follow the photo's down thru and you'll see what happens
|
started stripping trim pieces off in preparation to begin the body work here's some photos of the trouble i ran into removing the spare tire rack from the rear (it's not going back on either)
as you can see i had trouble with the torx bit bolts on the taigate latch took the vice grips to 3 of them but the 4th needed to have the head ground off pulled the bracket off and presto vice gripped the stub out the 2nd set of vice grips were attached to the 1st for more leverage. every bolt has thread lock on it.
here's some photos of the rear corners after i cut the majority of the rusted steel out i used a sawzall for some of it but since they will bend panels i also used an air cut off tool with the cut off wheels. and a little grinder work here and there what you see in these photos took me about 9 hours to do since i'm not that experienced and i'm trying to be cautious so i don't cut off more than i have to the most time was spent on the pass. side corner
there was too much rot to be worth the added time to repair the fenders so i bought new ones
here's my metal brake tools
this is the drivers door i'll be replacing the lower section of the doorskin
does'nt look like there is much rust on the fenders but believe me what you can't see is very bad indeed
O.K. here it is in the primer
from here i'm going to link you to a new page for the rest of this project. this is just the primer and since this i've painted it midnight black as a base for the custom paint.(it helps to see any unfinished body work also)
