Lessons from my students

I'm a teacher at Nova's English Language Program

My students come from South America and they are here to learn enough English to survive in the USA.  They are currently helping me compile a book about "How to Succeed in the USA" and they have written some intersting articles.

This series of web pages will capture someof their ideas and experiences.  I apologize for any typing errors.  If you find any erros, please send an email to [email protected]
Tips and recommendations
from Dirk
a student (executive student) from Frankfurt

Leave EARLY when going EAST,
Leave LATE when going West

When flying east, e.g. Frankfurt to Singapore, leave early in the day.  If it is 7 a.m. in Germany, it is about 5 p.m. in East Asia.   (it's about 14 hours of flying).  You will arrive at about 7 a.m. in the morning and you can sleep on the airplane.  When you arrive you are in perfect harmony with the local people's schedule.

When you fly west, from Frankfurt to New York or California, leave late at night.  Leave at 8 p.m, so that the time in New York is 2 p.m.  Whan you arrive in NY, it will be about 10 p.m. (the flight is about 8 hours).
A visit to the tallest building in the world

When I visited the Sears Tower in Chicago, I found out that...

what?   Oh, yes, you're right.  The Sears tower is only the second tallest building.  the tallest is the Petronas towers in Singapore.

what?  Oh, you are right, they are in the capital of Malaysia.  That's Bangkok.  ...

So I was in Bangkok and I needed to stay overnight because i missed the airplane.
