Chapel of St. Ann

Church of Saint Paul

This church has an irresistable charm. This house of the Dominican order used to be a study centre in the Middle Ages. The first church was build in 1276 and was alot smaller than the one you can see today. After the troubled times of the 16th century, people started working on the Gothic extension. Therefor, St-Paul's church is also known as the Baroque Jewel in a Gothic shrine. After the abolition of the monastry by the French in 1796, Prior Peltier managed to buy the
church back. In 1968 the whole church was completely destroyed. Restorationworks weren't started untill 20 years later and is still not finished today. There is a nice collection of paintings here from the Antwerp Masters Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens. The imposing organ is one of the top 10 historical organs in Europe. There are Gregorian services held every sunday at 11.00 hrs.
